Just changed oil and trans fluid/filter... now stalls??
Hi all,
I'm puzzled by this problem. I just changed my oil and filter, fuel filter, and transmission fluid and filter as a part of scheduled maintenance. Everything went as routine, nothing unusual.
Twice now, since doing this, the engine has stalled unexpectedly but both under identical circumstances.
Both times the truck has stalled have been after hard acceleration, then sitting at a stoplight. The engine idles a little rough, then when I depress the accelerator, the engine stalls. It will restart and idle, even rev up in neutral and the idle in gear. As soon as I press the accelerator pedal, it stalls again.
I was able to shift it into 4 low and idle it into a parking lot, but shortly after all went back to normal.
Thoughts? No codes, no prior issues. This truck has never been in the shop for anything that wasn't routine maintenance. It's also bone stock except for straight exhaust. I've not yet verified the LP running, but will do that as soon as I get off work.

Yeah, that's sort of what I was thinking. 95,000 miles on the stock filter-mounted lift pump... I bet it's toast.
I just wanted to make sure there was nothing I could have done to the transmission or otherwise that would cause this behavior.

I would pull fuel filter take a flashlight and look in bottom of fuel filter housing. Is there sediment in the bottom of housing? You may have just stirred it up when you put your filter in and some got up into injectors or FCA. If you still have your stock fuel pump on the fuel filter housing that could be another problem also. Verify proper low pressure fuel supply to the injection pump: the in-tank transfer pump. In a good low pressure fuel system, fuel flow of 560 mL in
10 seconds or better is expected for model years 2003 and early 2004. The fuel
volume for the model years late 2004 through 2007 is 590mL in 10 seconds. Be sure
there is no air in the system.

I'm hoping it will hang on long enough to get it home. I'll post up what I find this evening.
Thanks for all of the suggestions; I'm glad to have a starting point!

Likely the best answers are above but you could check for any electrical connections that may have been disturbed. That would probably get you a code though. My money is on the LP.

Sincerest thanks to all of you. I just finished changing the lift pump and all is back to normal. The old one was completely dead. I followed all of the advice above and I feel a lot better about having fixed it myself. Thanks!!
I replaced with a Napa direct-replacement since I needed it fixed right away and I live close to the Napa distribution center (it's nice to hear them say "I have it" instead of "I can get it for you tomorrow"!) I realize this isn't a permanent fix, but hey, I got 95,000 miles out of the first one, right?
Now, on to the 'lamp out' issue.....
Cheers!
