I haul all the time and wouldnt mind better oil and for that matter extended oil changes along with a by-pass filter.

Anyone have any answers for me by chance? TIA.

I would try the 5-30 and if you find your burning oil up switch to the thicker 15-40
yes synthetic will leak a little faster then reg oil but it wont cause leaks..
you could also just fix your leaks

Well edited by admin that would just make sense now wouldnt it! No I dont have any leaks YET maybe slight seepage here and there but nothing horrible. I just didnt want any leaks starting but as that seems to be a myth!

Now would it matter if you started on synthetic at say 266k miles?

The synthetic oil causing leaks myth is not a myth but rather a misunderstanding. The older vehicles maybe mid 90's and older, not really sure, used a different type of gasket material. When used with regular oils it would stay pliable and swollen. After using regular oils for many miles someone would dump in synthetic and it didn't have the same properties as regular oil and the gaskets would shrink, causing leaks.

Todays gasket material has done away with the shrinkage problems.

Regular oils of today are refined so well hardly any of them leave deposits in the engine anymore so you can change over to synthetic even at high mileage.

If your worried about deposits in your engine and switching over to synthetics you could always use a can or two of engine flush before dumping in the synthetic.

I'am not an advocate of synthetic oil and prefer regular oils for my own reasons. Just passing along information that maybe will help someone.
