Jan 1st, 350 HP & 600 TQ?

That's what the Sales Manager told me that the New Cummins with the EGR will have. He said that Dodge want to surpass Ford's 6.0 at 325 HP and 550 TQ.

I know this came from the dealer, (I do take it with a grain of salt) but has anyone heard anything about this? ??? ???

I'm not saying this is true. I'd just like to hear if anyone else has heard or read anything about this.

no way.....with the newer regulations with emissions and egr i dont think diesel ratings in ford, chevy or dodge will be blasting up like that.

i really hope dodge and cummins dont pull something like this. right now this is a very realiable truck i dont think they should mess with it for a while, they should at least test the heck out of it. look at ford there 6.0 was originally supposed to have 550 ft lbs but since dodge put out 555 ford had to get to 560, but look at all the problems with fords, i dont know one person with a 6.0 that runs half way decent.

Who cares. The egr is gonna cost so much more in oil change maintenance etc, you could hop up a non egr 04 to 350/600 for much less money.. EGR is a disgusting thing.

Re:Jan 1st, 350 HP & 600 TQ?

just another dealer flapping is little sales lips. argh! these guys are stupid. I'm about ready to file a BBB complaint with one Dealer in particular because the sales manager told ME that the first 04s delivered in September would have the new emissions controls.

When in doubt as to the motive, follow the money. If he doesn't have any 03s to sell, and doesn't want you to go next door he'll intice you with delicious factoids and tell you the new ones are more powerful. If he has 03 to dump, and wants you do buy today, he'll tell you that the new 04s will have emissions controls.

There's no question that we're in a HP race, and in all truthfullness I can't independantly prove this guy wrong. I just don't think HE has reliable information because DC is pretty tight lipped about it all. Frankly it wouldn't surprise me if the HO does come stock with a little nudge in HP. We just don't know. 350 HP and 600 torque sounds pretty agressive although with VGT and a little software and they can dial up whatever they want to beat Ford and Chevy becuase the ISB platform itself is so capable and has so much to give without sacrificing reliability.

but consider this reality check: in order for a 600 ft. lb. torque engine to develop 350 HP it has to turn over 3100 rpms (making some reasonable assumptions). Do you think they will spec the engine that high? I don't.

If you are ballistic about power and willing to get the EGR truck just for the extra hp to the flywheel and don't care about the potential for killing longevity then all the blessings to you.

I bought my 03HO just because I knew if I waited a year I'd end up with the EGR and problems. I'm going to run out the warranty in five years and get one of the new fueling boxes and get more power capability than I ever wanted anyway with nearly proven longevity. My HO has as much as I need realistically. My nephews 03 standard output is not noticeably lower powered than mine is unless we were pulling a 30 foot stock trailer filled with stock and climbing the rockies- then I may beat him by 30 seconds at the top of the hill.

IMHO don't go power crazy in a stocker, its not that big a deal. Adding just a boost elbow could get me enough more hp to nearly be equal to the 04 anyway.

Re:Jan 1st, 350 HP & 600 TQ?

hey monte I agree 100% with you -- you know the EGR trucks will have essentially the same CTD platform, only modified with VGT/EGR. So slapping on a fueling box to a non-EGR truck will be far more preferable to me as well, when compared to waiting for a potentially more powerful engine with EGR.

But I do have some resonance with those who are committed to staying stock, and I don't think EGR will matter to the vast majority of those in this camp. The only exceptions to this might be intake clogging (if that occurs) before we get low sulfur fuel. yea, the oil drain interval is shortened but most won't know that or care.

So I would say that if someone is in the market for a new truck now, and plans to stay stock, and doesn't want to accelerate their purchase, that the EGR truck will be ok. that said, I don't think that the HP boost, if any, for the 2004.5 trucks, will be significant enough to have any practical value. it might have theoretical value to the numbers game, but thats all. and you're right, it will be trivial to leap frog any HP advantage of the EGR trucks with a simple fueling box on a non-EGR engine.

And by the way, there is absolutely NO evidence suggesting that the new EGR trucks will be more powerful. Similarly, there is no evidence that they won't be! However, in my opinion, the salesman's claim above is pure foolishness and not even believable (to spec the CTD at 350HP/3100 rpm), but that doesn't mean they won't try to beat Ford's numbers, which they could certainly do with a better intake and exhaust system. just bumping up the fuel they could easily acheive 330 HP at the same peak rpm as today (2900) with 600 ft. lb torque.

I'd go back to that dealer and sit down, waste his time and try to order an 8.3 dual turbo in a 3500. Tell him you "heard" about it and want to pay cash. Watch him spin around like a dog trying to lick his (insert your own word here). Snalesman are so brain dead sometimes. When I worked in service we were always putting out fires started by the salesman. They'd lie to the customer, and we would have to set them straight that their Ford Fiesta didn't have rain sensing wipers or something to the like.. : They will tell you what you want to hear.. FWIW

I think my non EGR 04 is near that power already.

Just turned 400 kilometers and the BOMBing has begun.

Yep, what scotty said. After just weeks of light duty bombing you can make up for whatever you initially lack and come out stronger on HP. I still have lots of reservations about the EGR.
