Jake/Exhaust brake

Jake/Exhaust brake
Need some advice,
This may be a little long but here goes. I purchased the 3 gages to monitor my Trans, Exhaust, and Boost. When I received the items it says to drill a hole in the side of my Trans pan and mount the Trans gage sensor there. So I went by the dealership to make sure this did not void my warranty. They said that technically it should but since I was trying to prevent damage that they don't say anything. During our conversation he said that people who purchase Dodges from them and do a lot of towing usually have a Jake/Exhaust brake installed. He said that as long as I have them install it (At the cost of $1500.00) it would not void my warranty. My question is does anyone have one installed and do they like the way it performs. Do you loose any Horsepower or MPG?
Thanks

I have one which I installed myself, and it is great. I think it was about $1,100 or so for the kit, and my understanding is that as long as you install it properly, it is covered under the warranty. Naturally, any damage that they could show was from your not following the directions or screwing up the install would not be covered.
I did not notice any change in power or milage. I think I read that Jacobs claims the valve in the exhaust elbow does not alter flow enough to measurably change engine performance, but I'm sure it takes a couple of HP to spin the vacuum pump.
Anyhow, if you tow, especially over 10,000 lbs or over mountains, I think it is worth it. It is also helpful for warm-ups...
You can download installation instructions and operating manual from jacobs...

Installation does take a few hours, but is pretty straight forward. Be sure to disconnect both batteries before undoing any of the electrical connections. There was a thread a while back about somebody who had a dealer install theirs and they apparently didn't follow that part of the instructions, and it required a reflash.
Also, you may want to price check the local Cummins shop...
I see you are new here. Welcome. Lots of really sharp, friendly people here.
You may want to put your truck info in your signature...

Well technically YES he could put one on an Auto. He'd have to do something in order to lock up the torque converter. BD, ATS, DTT all have a trans controller to allow use of an exhaust brake, I believe Banks also makes a controller. There is also the "Mystery Switch" approach. Lots of reading on this subject.
