isspro pyro

I just installed a set of isspro gauges pyro trans and boost. The boost is working fine the trans is not reading anything so i need to contact isspro, but that is another issue. The question I have is what is the normal opperating temp of a pyro mounted in the manifold looking at the last 3 cylinders (4-6)?

Here are a couple of things that I have been looking at. On hwy crusing 65mph I am seeing 700-800*. I put the truck in tow/haul to lock the converter and did a run form about 40-70 WOT and hit about 1250*. Under normal to light acceleration I can hit 900* easy. After normal driving when I am ready to shut the truck down I can sit in park for 5min and the temp still reads 450-500*. I was told that 300-350* is what the truck needs for proper shut down.

The only modification to the truck is a straight pipe muffler delete.

Sounds about right to me, except the cool down temp. Mine will usually be down to about 325 - 350 after just a couple of minutes sitting there.

just installed this to, mine moves around alot heat wise almost as much as the boost does. put right in front of #4 cyl. my old powerstroke would come up to temp and stay until i got into it good, but this thing goes up and down...

got it up to about ~1100 or so at ~32 psi about 70-75mph.

I also have an isspro mounted on the manifold. Mine will also be around 600-700 cruising empty on level freeway. Romping on it hard towing up a mountain at higher rpm, I can see 1200.

Idling after driving around town, though, mine will drop to 300 or so in just a minute or two.

I have the same set of gauges. On hard romps I have seen 1250, normal driving 600 to 900, shut down pretty quick at 325. My trans sender didn't work at first & the probe wire's had been glued into the amp box & were not screwed in good. I remove the glue reinserted the probe wires & tightened the set screws & presto the gauge started working.

Hey Mega, Your trans temp probably just needs some grounding help. I sent you a PM, give me a buzz, I will try to help.

Thanks for all the help. I am going to take a look at the ground wires and the wires that lead into the amp box for the trans temp. I live in portland so if all else fails I can drive up to the isspro HQ and see if they can give me a hand.

A side note today while driving to work I was on a slight incline 52mph with the converter locked (the incline was about 2miles long). I accelerated to 55mph and held there. My pyro jumped up to 1150* then dropped to 1100* and held there for the rest of the hill. My boost was reading about 7-8lbs.

I know that I am new to the diesel game but 1150* on light throttle seems way to high. I can only imagin what will happen if I try to add a programmer.

I'm no expert but sounds like you were lugging the engine. RPM isn't that high at 52-55mph with the 3.73's and 35's (assuming you were locked in 4th).

Cummins considers running the engine at load below 1600 RPM to be lugging, but even then 1150 seems way high for unloaded acceleration on a slight incline...

I don't have a boost gauge, but I would have guessed you would have seen a lot more than 7-8?

Otherwise, I wonder if you could have gotten the wrong probe for the temp range of your gauge? Like a 0-1200 probe with a 0-1500 gauge? (Just a guess)

I went and talked to the isspro tech and he said that I prob. have a bad pyro box and possably a bad trans box. The trans gauge, he said to check the wires and then pull out the sending unit and try heating it with a hair dryer for some extra heat. If it still does not budge he will give me a new box for the pyro and trans.

When I go back to Isspro I will ask about the possability of having a 1200* box with a 1500* gauge.

Thanks again for all the input.

My new isspro gets the same readings.Probe is at #3 cyl.
600-900 cruising.
Up to 1250 doing WOT rowing the gears but by then I'm going over 90 and have to back off cause of traffic.

Mine cools down to 300-325 real quick, though. Less than half a minute, if that.
