Injector(s) noise?

I just got back from a 1200 mile trip and have noticed (for the first time) my injectors being audible from inside the cab. Now, I almost exculsively drive with the radio on fairly loud so it's quite possible (and probable) that the noise has been present all along and I've never been able to hear it until now.

To describe the noise it just sounds like an injector "firing/pulsing" but I found it a bit odd to be able to hear it inside the cab. It's very faint and with the a/c or vent on I can't hear the noise. It is RPM dependent and when I let off the accelerator it goes away.

When I got home this evening I raised the hood and listened at idle. It's definetly audible and on the "#1" fuel line (forgive my imaginative explanation) and the "#5" fuel line you can actually feel the fuel pulsing through the line. With the other lines I cannot "feel" the injectors firing.

Any ideas?

TIA!

Doh! I updated my sig in my profile but it didn't show up on the original post. I'll include this post until I figure out why my sig isn't showing.

Mine has the same sound as yours and all the dealers tell me its normal, the problem is the sound was not there when new and has only gon't louder as the miles roll by. I'm really thinking hard about trading her this weekend on an 06.

I believe others had suggested running some injector cleaner through there.

My '05 injectors have been ticking since new. I have 36000 miles on the truck and had injectors replaced in the 5 and 6 cylinders twice.

I have tried every injector cleaner on the market and I mean everyone of them with no change to the sound. I had the #3 injector replaced after it failed driving home to San Antonio which caused all the engine oil to be pushed out leaving only diesel fuel to lube the engine for some 150-200 miles.

My '05 has no mods and has been in the shop 8 times now. Injectors are giving me all sorts of problems. The same two injectors keep failing. I have had diesel almost coming out of my dipstick tube.

Not sure on the #5, but EVERY common rail #1 line has the "thump" you are describing.

The Quad box will also effect it... does the sound change when you turn the box on and off?

Wow! A surge of replies--thanks!

I changed the fuel filter yesterday and the sound seemed to be a little lower (volume wise). I also checked the oil level and all is fine there so that's a good indication. Strangely, I didn't think to turn the quad off and check the noise--I'll give this a shot as well.

All these injector problems suck!

When you are forcing 25,000psi fuel through a tiny little hole, things need to work just right

When the box is turned off the rattle is still there but not as loud.

Has anyone put aftermarket performance injectors in these trucks and not experienced problems like we are all having with stock 04.5 and 05 trucks, I know warranty would be gone, i am just getting tired of taking my truck into a dealer service dept every other month to be told that the bad mileage clatter, and smoke is normal.
