Injector help please
Truck is at the dealer, number two injector is shot, fortunately 100k warranty covers replacement. However, my dealer, a good one at that, is telling me i need a filter, no argumement i will supply one, and an injector flush, $234.00, not covered by warranty. I really cannot argue with the flush but if it is necessary i think it should also be warrantied, what say you. one other thing, ECM needs updating, i have ignored the recall due to the reverse honk out of park fix, can i refuse this without creating undue aggraviation on my part.
thanks in advance,
tim

Not sure about the ECM but they will never go for warrantying the flush as the fuel you run is probably the reason for the needed flush. At least that will be their stance on the matter.

Tell them that you use a flush on your own and refuse that item. Also prior to that call oneof your local Cummins dealers and find out what they recomend. When you get it back then get some Lucus, Power Service or any good diesel injector cleaner and use double the recomended amount.
As far as the flashes, then tell them not to flash for the reverse park flash but to do all others recomended, it is/was a separate flash so on my 04.5 it wasn't ever done.

I agree with DON the worst it could do is not work then take it to a cummins shop and have them flush it out. As far as additives I think I would try some Stanadyne you can get it at any pump shop.

Ask your dealership their procedure for flushing your injectors.
If it does not include removing the injectors, having them cleaned and then bench tested then reinstalled then tell them no.
The decarbon spray they use is as a fuel injector flush is a incorrect procedure that they use to delay issues untill warrenty is up.
If you have a carboned up injector then it needs to be removed cleaned and tested.
If they are doing this for peice of mind then tell them you run a good fuel additive such as Cummins Recommended and endorsed Valvoline injector cleaner. once a month or so to keep them clean.
