increased mileage after break in??
I think I've figured it out. Mileage does go up after break in for a lot of us and down for a few. I think it just has to do with the driver. Some of us get a new (to us) diesel and just have to romp it a little more when it's new to hear that "truck" sound. After a few thousand miles we begin to get used to it and it isn't something we TRY to make happen as often and we just ease into a slightly different driving style until we start the mods... Then all goes to heck again..
I got my truck used (already broken in with 35000 miles) and I've been noticing the improved mileage as the truck gets older. Thought that was interesting until my teenager told me this weekend that everytime he rides with me I drive more and more like "papaw"... Where do I start bombing???

Congratulations on your new (to you) truck. Welcome to DTR. I would recommend that you get gauges before you do anything else. When you get a chance, fill out your signature so we will all know what you drive.

Gauges are on my wish list. Like to get egt/boost gauge for both boat and truck. Then look into a trans temp for the truck. I just don't like any of the gauge mounts I've seen... Arlon

I had complaints about MPGs(15mpg) since the first tank of fuel I ran threw this truck and keep getting comments from another forum that I was driveing to fast etc. Well after 2500 miles of crapy mileage I called the dealer and of course the Dealers reply was that 15mpg was about normal. SO I took a look myself and noticed that the air cleaner reminder was almost in the red and I though well I do live on a dirt road but 2800miles is a bit soon to be needing a air cleaner so I removed it and to my suprise it seams that a rat had made a nest in my air filter houseing and the nest along with what must be a fiber were cloging up my air filter. So I cleaned it out and my next tank of fuel was at 17.8mpg (pencil). I suspect that that rat or mouse was included with the cost of the truck.

New truck mileage
Now, my truck is really new. But, I bought fuel today, and hand cranked the numbers. Came out 16.3 mpg for 100% in town driving. Not bad, if I do say so myself.
Kinda curious how the computer thing works out.
