Increased injector Noise

Due to a dealership installing an "invisible" lift pump I am experiencing increased injector noise. I have installed a FASS system and I am still experiencing the increased injector noise. I had it in to the local dealership and they say that the rail pressure is good and all the other diagnostics are within normal parameters. Any Ideas?

on another thread he posted that his original L/P failed and he was charged to put an intake unit in. he dropped the tank, and guess what? No lift pump at all!

these dealers are amazing. poor guy.

Well, I hope he got sued or something - that kind of behavior is unconscionable!

At least he never has to wonder when it will go out!

usually the injectors only make noise when dirty and clogging up. sorry, just dont have any more experience other than that.

I had an injector rattle from idle up to about 1400 rpm's. Took it to the dealer numerous times. They acknowledged the noise but, wouldn't do anything about it per DC.

I ended up fixing the problem with fuel additives. Read about carbon build-up on the injector tips causing problems like I had.

The fix was to run the hell out of the engine and/or use fuel additives that clean the fuel delivery system.

I tried an additive & it worked. However, it took quite awhile. Has not come back for almost a year, now. I use additives all the time, now.

Mine sounded like one of the injectors came out of a pre-HPCR engine. Had that rattle common to the earlier engines.

Thanks for the input. I do use additives on a regular basis and pull medium to heavy loads with it on a regular basis. The noise only gets louder as the RPMs increase. Before the "invisible" lift pump all I had to do was mash the pedal and the noise went away. The increased noise only started after running it without a lift pump for about 5k to 6k miles. I am worried that this has caused my injectors to coke up and/or damaged the injector pump. The injector teck at Cummins said they either work or they don't. Funny about the timing of the start of the noise though. Would like to have some evidence to take to court when I go after the dealership that installed the "Invisible" lift pump.

Runs about the same when I remove the chip. My guess is that something has happened to the injectors, coking, clogging, etc. I used to see a drop in fuel mileage when I removed the chip. Now it gets about the same, very poor.

So you think an undersupplied IP caused the injectors to "clog or coke"?

Right after I picked up the truck I hooked up to my 33' fifth wheel and drive 300 miles with no notice of extra noise or decrease in power. 3 to 4 weeks later I hooked up to my Horse trailer and couldn't get the RPMs over 2k and the increased injector noise was evident. The introduction to the ULSD happenned about that time also. Something happened while running the "invisible" lift pump, not sure what.

Have you pulled the injectors to look at them? I just learned to do it and it just takes patience and a little time. It is not really hard. I wonder if having them cleaned and pop tested would help. That is the only $.02 I can offer.
