things I miss from the old truck
sound, mileage

things I like about the new
Interior room, the second seat is a huge improvement
The interior room is why I switched
They seem quieter, but I still end up turning it off in the drivethrough

Power for both can be had with enough money

Learning curve on the electronics takes a while. Then applying the electronics to practical data .............You get my point.

I'd buy a new one in a heartbeat. I bought my 04.5 brand new, and I won't lie, the lift pump died at 22k miles.. They did the intank upgrade at the dealership under warranty, the Chrysler roadside assistance was great, and the tow 40 miles to the dealer was free as well.. All great service from DC. That being said, Ive had no problems since the upgrade, and no other problems with my truck. I don't have much in the way of mods on my truck yet, just a straight pipe and gauges.
I say go with a new one and enjoy. I enjoy my truck more and more every day.

ABSOLUTELY not picking on anyone in particular, but on lift pumps its like anything else: you HEAR about the BAD ones; never mind the THOUSANDS
& THOUSANDS that are still running. Just like watching the news.

I'm at almost 33,000;still goin' strong.

Theres people who got on this site just to figure out thier problems or to run the stuff down......%#@&^%$..........

"I think more defrost blend doors have broken than CP3s."

Yep mine has that problem too. It is out of warranty and when it gets real bad I get to pay to have it fixed. The blend doors didn't start to fail until after the 3/36 expired.

Superduty is not referring to the CP3. It is the lift pump he recommends being replaced so you don't get stranded. There is also some speculation the weak lift pumps are starving the CP3s causing them to overheat and blow the seals.

I don't agree with that at all. People who want Detroit to make a better product are not disloyal, they are honest. Just because its bad news means it should not be reported?

But then making excuses for them, thats what keeps Detroit in business, we always let them off the hook.

I think they could easily make these trucks with VERY few problems, if they wanted to.
Then for the rare problem they could have better customer support.
If they did that there would not be complaints about failures and there are a lot of them on this site alone.
It would read more like "nothing ever fails" or "amazing quality" or "dealer bent over backwards to make right" That should be the norm rather than the exception.
Its why I won't buy a new Detroit truck. Its a crap shoot.

If it weren't for sites like this we would have to rely on the manufacturers to tell us of problems with our trucks. Have we seen a TSB on the leaking CP3 pumps? I didn't think so.

Since I wrote my last post I pulled my 10,000 gvw trailer down to
Denver and back. Saw lots of new Dodge trucks- they look great. It got me thinking how good we are at coming up with some great design.

Any suggestions on how they could easily do that?

You obviously don't work in the automotive industry.

Right, I do not. But it is not by chance that Toyota Trucks is tops in customer satisfaction and quality year in and year out, so SOMEONE knows how its done.
I see this a lot in my job too, the "why we just can't do it any better" thing.

That thinking just brings down the whole trade.
What ever became of the we can do anything American spirit?

And why should it have to be "easy"? Unless its easy its not worth the effort?

I remember when cars and trucks lasted 4 years. It was not Detroit that got themselves off the couch and rolling up their sleeves. It was the very real possibility that they would lose it all if they did not anti up and build a better product.
Competition got them to make the effort.
And they did, so I know they can do it.
It really bugs me sometimes when our car makers come out with these great designs and make a product that soime of the time is great and some of the time is not so great. Meanwhile the highest quality ratings go to overseas makers because of the lack of consistancy. Does not have to be like this.
If the men and women on the line got the backing they needed to control quality better then we would not be having this discussion.

Isn't Cummins a British or German brand?
