depending on where you live the answers are in sequence: yep, yep, yep. In Alabama no one cares.

Even here in California, they don't care about the diesel.

The short answer is yes, yes, yes. Will you get caught? No. Most shops will not do it for you. If you live in an annual inspection state you are more likely to get cought.

well i live in colorado, and i can register my truck in a location that doesn't give emissions. Are catalytic converters very restrictive, can you make big hp with one.

It is a federal regulation that a catalytic converter not be tampered with. As a result most shops won't do it. If you remove it yourself and live in a lax state regarding emissions inspection you might get away with it. If you get stopped by DOT for any reason then all bets are off.

If you take off the cat it is a violation. Most shops will not remove it because there can be a huge fine involved. As for the warranty, I find it hard to believe the warranty would be voided. How would the removal of the cat cause a major malfunction? I went to my dealer with the AFE, 4inch exhaust no cat. The service tech looked at my truck and Said "Nice Mods, where is your chip?" No issues at all with minor mods at my dealer. I woudn't worry to much about it. If a cummins motor blows up because of a Cat removal, I'm switching to Ford

If this worries you and you don't have a problem passing an emissions test, take it off and gut it, put it back on. DOT will never know the difference.

Yeah, that why the run $3 shock on these trucks, and have been "decontenting" over the past few years.

Heck, they even took some badges off the of the Jeeps recently to save pennies.

The factory is in the business of making money, not in making the best truck possible. Don't ever forget that.

Duh - Of course there in it to make money. Why do you think DCX is in business.

If you equate out the improvements, HP & Torque increases vs a 2ndGen and the modest price increase, you get a lot more truck for the $$ when buying a 3rdGen.

If your so sour on DCX, WHY are you even considering their product?? Yeah, I know, as much as you like to complain about them, you know they still make the best product out there in the light duty truck mkt. And don't YOU ever forget that.
Look it up, each shock costs DC $3 each to put on the truck.

I owned a DC POS for 5 years, and it was nothing but trouble. Thank god I got an extended warranty, because it paid for itself more than twice over.

I am considering the Ram as my primary, almost soley on the Cummins motor, and secondly on the driveline past the tranny.

Chevy offers a supeior interior, Ford offers (especially the '05s) a better build overall truck. And Chevy offers a great tranny. I have driven a moving truck equipped with the allison, and even only with the 6.0, loaded to the gills it did just find in 110* heat up the passes from CA to AZ. I haven't driven an new Ford, or 3rd gen Dodge, for than matter. But I have driven a 7.3 PSD and a 24v 2nd gen CSD, as well as several non Duramax Chevys.

All of the companies have cheapened up lately, except Ford IMO. If Ford had a real engine, they would be the route to go IMO.
