if you have had your tranny factory rebuilt look
hey guys i had my transmission go on me back in november i had brought it to the dealer because i didnt have the money to have it built up and it was still under warranty but anyways to the point i have not tried this with out the smarty in so i dont know if it only happens with added power but when accelerating over 40 50mph+ it feels like a vibration goes threw the trans for just a few seconds then smooths back out my buddy has an 06 2500 and same situation with his never did this befor the rebuild
Is it normal does yours do it or do we have a problem
also two different dealers and techs worked on our trucks so cant be an error on the tech.
thanks guys.

You need a bottle of Lube Guard. Start with 1/2 a bottle and drive it for a day, if it still does it add the other 1/2.
The converter is grabbing. The LG will make the fluid a little bit more slippery so it doesn't do it. The dealer probably has the same additive.

Dont put Lube Guard in your tranny,
Drop your tranny pan check the magnet in the bottom for debris, it should be a very fine sludge. If you have chunks of debris then you have a problem. Your clutche and or other internals are wearing out.
When they rebuilt your tranny did they change the torque converter? That really is the weak part in the transmission. Especially when you add power to it.
As for my LubeGuard comment, when I called them last year and asked them what their actual warrenty and application was for their product on Dodge Diesel transmissions they referred me to their product literature. Which had no info on the 48 re. This leads me to belive they have not tested it on such.
So it's your call if you want to use a product. Maybe they have changed their product litrature since last year. But it was not worth trying the product on my $4000 tranny because they insinuated their warrenty and application info was on the package and or book. It is a friction additive which helps the clutches enage each other better. very shortly after it was added to my tranny it died. Although there were a few other issues at the time, this stuff accelerated the situation greatly.
Again I phoned them for a copy of their warrenty and application stance and they referred me to their product literature, which stated nothing about the 48Re tranny. Just letting you know my dealings witht heri product.
Good luck and let us know what you find out.

What level are you running the Smarty on? Anything over #1 and you run the chance of slipping clutches.
At that speed it sounds like the TC clutch is slipping when it goes to lockup. Looking at your sig and am pretty sure between the tires and the power thats what is happening. You really need a few trans mods or its gonna eat itself up again soon.

If its just started doing this and its been a long time since it was built or serviced try servicing the trans with a fliud exchange and make sure to use ATF+4. The main difference in +4 formula and others was to stop torque converter chatter.Worn fliud may enhance chatter.

Wonder if ATF+4 was not used. There is a friction modifier additive used to convert ATF*3 and Dexron 3 trans fliud for use in vehicles requiring ATf+4. I have it in my 1998 1500 as it blew a trans line and dumped 9 qts of fliud out.I was within a 100 yards of a independent trans shop whom only used Dexron 3 with additive.I read the bottle.I can see why its on the market.Dexron 3 I found out is used by most trans shops as it is OK in such a wide application. With the modifier it can be used in Chrysler and Ford units as well as a few others. The owner of the trans shop said it would be impossible to carry ALL the brands specified. I'd add a bottle(won't harm a thing) and if the shudder goes away in 10 miles or so there you go.Auto parts stores may carry it.It was like a 9 ounce bottle and stated it was to convert Dexron and Atf+3 for use in late model Chrysler autos.Main function was to stop torque convertor shudder going into lock up.

i think they put ATF+4 in i have the repair invoice and i ran the ATF part number 5013458AA and i came up with ATF+4 im gonna see if it still does it with out the smarty in if so then i'll ask the dealer about it.

Sounds like you are overpowering the stock setup. If the ATF+4 is turning dark and brown, the fluid is history. Keep slipping the converter and it will be history if not already.

i just dont understand why i am only getting this vibration after the rebuild and not anytime befor same setup befor and after..

I wonder if they rebuilt the over drive clutch pack or not. Some times the dealerships will only do the tranny not the over drive.
I doubt it is your torque converter, once it is locked up its pretty much a done deal.

this is not true. The factory valve body doesn't have high enough pressures and I can shutter my converter pretty easy.

The 60hp setting will slip the TC, been there done that. They could have pooched the rebuild or your other unit already had the clutches glazed and was slipping without shudder. Now you have a fresh TC that the clutches are not glazed, not enough apply pressure, and too much power. Instant shudder.
