Idiot needs gear help
Hello, I am new to this forum and the proud orderer of a 04.5 600 6sp QC DRW. While I still have time to change my mind I would like to ask you guys a question about rear end gears. The web site gives you 4.10 gears automaticly so that is what I ordered at the dealer. should I stay with that or change to the 3.73? My use of this truck are as follows:I live in rural southern michigan and will be driving this truck to work 2-3 days a week approx 12 miles one way on secondary roads(50-55 mph). When it will be on the highway it will have a 9500 pound fifth wheel on its back so most other non-camping trips will take a smaller vehicle. Should I change?

I don't think that 3.73's are available on a DRW, but if you can change I certainly would. The loads you are talking about do not need the 4.10's. You will be wanting a 7th gear either way.

I agree with Nevada. Go with 3.73s if you can. With my 3.73s, I'm at 2000 rpm at 68 mph. I haven't towed yet but my brother has an '03 with 3.73s and he said it tows great.

Having returned a 3.73 dually and now have a 4.10 one, I would suggest that the 4.10 is the gearing this truck is made for! At 70, the 4.10 is only 250 RPM higher, but is much more responsive!
