I think my tranny mount may be broken... :(
Afternoon, DTR...
Recently, I broke my output shaft. When I got the truck back, I noticed that the tranny had a lot of slop in it when I take off from a dead stop... reminding me of many broken tranny mounts in my Camaro back in the day...
I got under the truck today, and did not see any tears on the rubber, but I can move the tranny and inch or so... there is that much play in the tranny mount. It looks like it's stretching.
Any Ideas on this?
Anyone know of a better mount?
TIA!

Just had mine replaced when removed you could turn it right and left quite a bit. It wont come apart the two metal parts are trapped. Very easy to change remove the two bottom nuts rase the transmission with a jack remove the two bolts holding it to the trans and reverse procedure to install.

Mines done that since day one. I think I remember seeing somewhere that Dave from Goerends recommended some play or the overdrive housing could crack. I'll see if I can find it.

I posted the same thing concerning aftermarket transmission mounts a month ago, and couldn't find out very much. I just installed a Mitchell overdrive unit, and am getting ALOT of movement out of the stock transmission mounts.
I checked with Daystar, Energy Suspension, Hyperflex, and a couple other companies for a polyurethane type perfomance transmission mount. I couldn't find anyone who made something for our application.
I went to the local hot rod shop, and found some energy suspension mounts for an old gmc that were generally square in shape and about the right dimension, but I've not got around to trying a retrofit for our application yet.
Lemme know if you come across anything...

Might be a dumb question, but are the bolts tight on the bottom of the mount? I had a similiar issue and the bolts had fallen off! I think the mount from dodge is fairly inexpensive, I did replace mine once, but cannot remember the amount.

Well, here's the reason I bring it up all of a sudden... I had the tranny removed and replaced when I broke my output shaft, and now it does this. I wonder if I messed it up when the shaft broke, or if my installer messed it up. Deffinatly a big change from before I broke the shaft till now...

Not sure what the mounts look like, but if they're open rubber mounts (have holes in them) you can fill em with 3M Window Weld fairly easily for improved stiffness, yet still have some good movement. On the cars I fill mounts for, they don't transmit alot of vibration like polyurethane mounts, but keep the engine from moving around excessively. You can also use this method to fix torn mounts as well. G/L
