I think the local dealer tried to sell me the wrong antifreeze
I called the dodge dealer and asked if they had antifreeze for my truck. Told them that the manual calls for HOAT type. They said yes we got it for 14.00 a gallon. Went down there and the guy at the parts counter brings me Dex-Cool. I told him that want mix with what i got in my truck. Told him it calls for HOAT type and he just says this is what we put in all of our trucks and cars. Saw him get a catalog book out and still couldn't find it.
He looked it up and said they never heard of the type HOAT. Even got my vin number and looked it up. Then talked to a mech. and that guy said his neon even calls for it, but i think he was talking about OAT type. The Dex Cool did not say anything about HOAT type on the bottle. So said thank you and left. I guess i will find it at an auto parts store.
I was going to change my transmission fluid and filter, so now i think i will just buy my transmission filter at a parts store also.
What do ya think............

X2..
Or consider Amsoil Antifreeze. I use it, it is HOAT compatable but rated for 250,000+ miles IIRC. A little pricey up front, but pays off down the line. And you will probably never have to change again.

I will probably go with the Zerex G-05 Antifreeze myself when I do the coolant change with a new thermostat from Cummins.

which reminds me i need to get some more for mine. I had to drain out all of my Amsoil antifreeze when I changed water pumps over the summer.

I thought there was green (old stuff) and pink/orange (new stuff) and if it originally had one or the other it should continue to have the same kind and they shouldn't be mixed. Are there more kinds of coolant out there and what are the differences?

Zerex G05, made by Valvoline, they dye it pink for Mopar. Zerez is dyed gold. Used in pretty much the whole car/truck line (my SRT8 uses it too.) All antifreeze is clear - manufactures just dye it to make it (somewhat easier).
