hub unit bearing play...question

Is there ANY acceptable play in these bearings? I have very slight play in the front pass side bearing...grabbing the tire at the top and bottom and push pull on the tire and I get very small movement in the hub unit. Is this a massive failure about to occur or will I get some warning. I'm currently trying to track down a rythmic humming that is most noticable at 112km/h and maybe this is the cause???????? Thanks. Already ruled out front driveshaft.

This COULD be your issue, but why risk it? I just replaced both hubs due to some play in the driver's side. The thing is, the hub won't go out in your driveway. No, it'll go out 2,300 miles from home. I say replace the hub (and maybe both) regardless of your vibration issues. If you're lucky, it will take care of both issues.

make sure u actually see the unit bearing moving , it might just be loose balljoints

Thats what I did, I put both new bearings in mine and it turned out to be the ball joints were the problem. But putting new hubs in is cheep insurance.

if its passenger side your suspecting to be your hum run down the road at 40-50 mph and start shifting the weight from right to left by rocking the wheel as you put weight onto a bad bearing it will get louder (if its the right side bearing it will get louder on left turns and opposite reaction for left side bearing ) but when you take the weight off it'll be quiet, easy five minute test drive trick
