Hub Bearing Nut Tool

Having a hard time finding the Dodge 6 pin Hub Bearing Nut Tool #8954. I need to replace a rear axle seal. Does anyone have a source for these? Thanks.

Looks close, The one displayed in the dodge service manual does not have protruding center portion though.

Angry bearing nut tool

I am afraid the link to the tool I postae above is not the right tool.
Close, but no cigar!
I ordered one and it was just a bit off.
I am going to grind off four tangs and work with two opposite each other.
I don.t want to start a search again as I measured and two should fit.
At 22 foot pounds there should be no problem.
Will post the results.

Smile bearing nut tool

i ground down four of the tangs. leaving two 180' opposite each other and filed the inner corners of the two tangs and it fits nicely.
As i said, with the low initial torque the two tangs will do the job.
Didn't take but about 15 minutes using a grinding wheel and a file.
Good luck!

Did you happen to take measurements of the nut when you had it apart? It wouldn't take much to make a tool, for those of us with basic machining equipment.

hub nut tool

Sorry, finished the job this afternoon and just fired up the computer.
I will measure the tool I modified in the next day or two, depending on where storm Fay decides to go.
As I said I ended up with two tangs instead of six, and they were sufficient to do the job.

hub nut tool

Hindsight is 20/20.
I think if I had just filed all 6 tangs, rounding off the inner corners, the tool would have worked with all tangs.
Anyway, the job is done and the seal is holding.
The tool is approximately 3'' deep, the outside diameter is 66mm/2 9/16'',inner diameter is 57mm/2 1/4'', width of tang is 4.5mm/3/16'', tang protrudes 7mm/ 9/32''
The tool is KD-2770.
The nut has 6 notches evenly spaced around the outer diameter and the notches are 1/2 rounded on the inner side.
I got the seal from a local NAPA dealer, #28540 by SKF, and I could not find anyone that had a listing for the axle flange gasket.
I found a flange gasket in my garage that was for my 89 CTD and it matched up.
Felpro 12579.
Hope this helps anyone that needs to do this job.
