How well does the factory tranny temp light work?
Did a seach and found little about this subject.
Anyone know where the temp is taken for the factory idiot light?
At what temp the light comes on? (pan or hot output line)
Anyone with aftermarket tranny temp gauge have experience with how hot the output line or pan was when the factory dash light came on?
Thanks!

He said that there is a sensor in the transmision.

Temp sense is incorporated into the gov psi transducer. Last I knew the light came on at 260 and wouldn't go off until it dropped back down to 230. I had seen that happen on my old 95 gasser while pulling my enclosed car trailer.

260 is not good for long, but would there be damage? I guess I am assuming that the light went on @ 260 and it did not get any hotter.

Is the gov psi transducer the solenoid pack?
Very well could be taking the temp of the flux capacitor as this point as I don't know what the gov psi transducer is. So, what is that?
Thanks

The governor transducer.....hold on for this highly technical explanation......is the little black thingy on your valve body toward the front on the passenger side with a black three wire connector attaching to it. It and/or the solenoid right by it likes to take a dump quite regularly. I would bet if I bothered to clean my bench off at work I would find no less than four of them. Those two pieces and a lift pump are under my back seat.

I hate to share this but we all do stupid things.... I wan in Chicago in the dead of winter (Chicago winter = 3 deg ambient with 50+mph winds -> well into the sub-zero temps). I was sitting at a light and I decided I would pwr brake the engine (1200-1300rpm) thinking it would heat up faster under load. After about 1-2 minutes the trans temp light came on (I didn't even know it had one - glad it did). I popped it into neutral and kept the revs at 1500. The light went off after about 20-30 seconds, about the same time I finished soiling myself. If that tranny can develop that kind of heat in that temp, OMG. This is one reason I'm after a trans cooler. I'm hoping that the light comes on at 230. When it comes to air-cooled engines you dangerously close to a sieze up at 160.
