how to remove silence ring

Re:how to remove silence ring
HOSS, the tube replacement took all of 4 minutes.if i went in for service, i would surely spend another 4 minutes puting the stock tube back in it(you acctually can put it back)you did more to void your waranty when you took that screwdriver to your turbo, inches from the fins.
LIGHTMAN, theres a difference between listening to my turbo sing, and putting a "BIG FIN" on the back.when i have YOUR money to do these PERFORMANCE mods you speak of, i`ll be more than ready.as for now , my $15 "silencer eliminator" suits me fine. O, just my 2 cents

Yes, but that would be dishonest. We had a thread here about that not too long ago before you came along....talking about people that put mods on their trucks and then take them off before taking them in for service. In my opinion, if you want to modify your truck then you should be prepared to provide your own warranty work. If they find my silencer ring removed and want to void my warranty on the turbo, then of course I'll try to change their mind, but if necessary I'll accept it and pay what I have to. However, that doesn't mean I'm going to POINT OUT to them that I modified it....like changing the tube would.

Dodgedude - I like the sound of the turbo too, don't get yourself all upset, I was just poking fun at you guys Also the fact that you drive a 3rd gen cummins tells me you have and can spend your own money on mods if you like... we're not driving ford escorts here
As far as dishonest goes, how about the fact that all dealers work on 'book time'? I was just charged 2.2 hours labor at $99/hr at the mercedes dealer to have two front springs out. I've seen it done, it takes 30-45 minutes at most. How about dealers telling you what their 'cost' is on trucks, and not divulging the existence of holdbacks, or volume based rebates that they get unless a customer is savvy enough to know better? I feel like I owe as much honesty to the dealership as I do to the insurance company.... On the other hand, if I had a box on my truck, and smoked the clutch due to it, I wouldn't feel right taking it off and getting a new clutch covered under warranty. However, I would feel fine having my coolant pump replaced or something unrelated, and taking off the box just so the dealers can't void my warranty for the box... I know mag-moss act protects against that, but who really has the time/effort to take the dealer to court over some warranty crap?

why be honest with the dealers....are they EVER honest with you....NO :
Because that's the way I am. Besides, two wrongs don't make a right.

Sounds a little ricey folks....mods that don't give any performance? Why not put a big fin on the truck, spinning rims, and a pop can muffler?
Now you be quiet Mr. automatic truck. Doncha know only old ladies (and a couple of awesome moderators here ;D ;D) drive automatics???? I like my turbo noise. So there.. ;D
#2 Yes dealerships and lots of garages charge book rate. Yes your spring job only took 30 mins. Lots of jobs pay way less than the actual time. Been on both sides (tech and customer)
One of the reasons I left the trade. Customers hate the techs, hate the bills. Build a house for someone, almost rape them (money wise) in the process, and they send you Christmas cards and booze . Mark up kitchens 200% and they are pleased as can be. But leave one drip of oil on the frame and they wanna kill you. (thump off the soapbox.)
Have a good one.... 8)

Re:how to remove silence ring
HOSS, how can you say your being honest, when you just said your hiding the fact that you removeed your silencer ring ??? ???
a little comen(sp) sense says that puting a silencer eliminater tube will not cause any harm, therefore by law it CANT void your warranty. If i decide to put the STOCK tube back in before i go in for service,i would hardly call that DISHONEST > its not like i put in a fuel chip, and then beat the crap out of it.only to break something, then TAKE OUT the chip and play dumb with the service guy.
If you dont want to put the tube in, thats up to you.
Now, cant we all just get along ;D

HOSS, how can you say your being honest, when you just said your hiding the fact that you removeed your silencer ring ??? ???
Must I repeat myself? : Go back and read what I said again. : I'm not HIDING anything. I'm just not gonna point it out to them that I removed the ring. If they ask I'll say yes. If they don't then why should I tell them...especially considering it doesn't hurt anything? :
A little common sense?? : I KNOW a silencer eliminator tube will not cause any harm. HOWEVER, removing the silencer ring IS modifying the turbo. Why give them an excuse to void the warranty on my turbo if I can avoid it by leaving my stock tube on? THAT is common sense. :
You do whatever you want to and think what you want to. It's no skin off my back. Don't ridicule me for thinking it's dishonest though. I'm completely prepared to deal with the consequences of removing my ring if I have to, but why do that if I don't have to? :
NOW you're making sense.

Dude, i`m not looking to battle you, but i DID read what you said. remeber this?
your the one looking to put your silencer ring back in......right? ???
"Sir, it appears that your silencer ring has been removed."
"What's a silencer ring??"
Seriously....how many people do this and has anyone had trouble with a warranty because of it?? Does it HURT anything to take it off...or just make the turbo whistle a little louder?? If it takes 5 minutes to take off....could I put it back on in 5 minutes if I had to go in for service??

How did I know that was gonna resurface. : I obviously can't deny that I said that....partly in jest....partly not....partly trying to figure out if it was worth it to take the ring out. But...I took it out....and have no intentions of putting it back in. Heck...I'm not sure I could find it even if I DID want to put it back in.
