I know this is off subject, but it's just as important is to flush your brake fluid every two years.

I flush mine out once a year. I don't want to think about my head gasket corroding.

I put a 12 pack in the fridge every Friday night.
Do this religiously and you won't have a problem.....but then again you might!

Thumbs up retrofitting fluids

[QUOTE=wexman]Supposedly, this HOAT stuff is good for 5 yrs, or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. I'm at 2 1/4 years now, and 23,000 miles, and my coolant looks good and pink in the reservoir, and I've never had to add any. [QUOTE]

WOW - that HOAT stuff is pretty good, and still cheaper than ATF+4... think I ought to swap it into my 49RE? I mean, they're practically the same color - isn't that why they do that? You know - like the green nozzles we fuel up with... besides, I've been running used tranny fluid in the steering/brake system for a while now, and when it turns black like the engine oil I just recycle it into the valve cover to mix with all the diesel that leaks from the triple-stacked injectors.
I wish something would turn blue so I can pour it into the washer reservoir...
The old diff fluid is the perfect gray color for blending into the leather seat panels - they are SO soft now.

I like the way I feel about myself for recycling precious natural resources, and I love how much smoke my truck makes whenever I get it running!

I just hope this new truck makes it to 100K miles - then I can put my HOAT into the next CTD, maybe get a smog credit or something.......

I agree with Wexman the HOAT stuff is good for 100000 miles or five years and does not require an additive. If you go to the green stuff you better be using a coolant conditioner.

So when I fill up with the green stuff in the fuel tank should I use the conditioning coolant back there, or under the hood? I tried it both ways - it went into the diesel hole no prob, but I wasn't sure which filler cap to unscrew in front... definitely not the valve cover, 'cause I don't believe in those fancy oil additions.

I found a few other caps around the engine, and since I didn't have enough conditioner to fill up each hole - I just poured some in each, except for that valve stem thingy. That mother spewed cold smokey stuff like crazy when I got it off with the vice-grips!
Didn't do any good, though - that hole is WAY too small to get some conditioner in... now I gotta get some cold air back into the hole and tape it shut, cause it's pretty hot here in TX and I need my A/C !

Does anyone know if I can use the conditioner to rub the bugs off the hood?
( We're on water restriction down here from the dry spell )

Radiator fluid

Interesting info..Many diverse opinions..If I am reading this correctly when to change fluid runs the whole spectrum from rarely to often with end results being about the same...(160,000 miles on car..) I think that car was ready for a new engine anyway..Any opinions on which coolant does a better job? Thanks

IMOH - I think pink stuff is best in the tranny and the green stuff fits into the diesel hole purty good - now my '05 is real noisy like a cummins should be, whenever I can get er running. My neighbors don't like my smoke though - they quit walkin the dog and everything!

I gotta see if the dealer has a hotflash for my brainbox - hafta admit it sure makes yer water at a redlight...

Hey - Jason & all U other reglar guys out there don't try these cooloant mods! unless ONly if you reely know what to do it to.... we been doin it for years, believ me we know whut were talkin about we hafta buy new CTDs reel regualar-like sence there service trucks - we work on em pretty constant, too.

Just put factory colors in the stock holes and drive normal.
