How much should come out when I drain fuel/water seperator?

I opened the petcock with the motor off and stuff trickled out for like 5 minutes straight... I didn't measure it but it seemed like a lot. I had just changed the fuel filter 2 days before it that matters... I also drained it when I changed the fuel filter at 15K and this much came out then tooo... but that was the FIRST time I had ever drained it (woops)...

If you leave it open that long then your draining the entire filter. The water settles at the bottom of the bowl so just crack it open for about a second. Any water is then evacuated. I usually do this about once ever 4 to 6 months and change the fuel filter approx every 12K miles.

i think it will keep running untill you run the pressure in the system down enough that it stops. from what i know just opening the valve for a few seconds should do the trick ( i may be wrong ) i have yet to see any water when i drained mine.

Also helps to drain it into a glass or clear plastic container.
Let it sit for a bit, the water will settle to the bottom, fuel will float on top.

(20 oz. pop/soda bottles work perfectly)

Then you can see if there was actually any water in it.

Usually there is so little water (if any), it just forms bubbles towards the bottom of the container.
