How heavy are 3rd gen cummins?

Would 2 2.25 ton jack stands work if i set them under front end to do ball joint work? They r motomaster 2.24 ton jacks i think. where is best place on 3rd gen to put them? my truck is a 2004 4X4 diesel?

Yes, those are more than sufficent. I have 2.5 ton stands that I use all the time. Well, all the time being when ever I have to jack up the truck, which really isn't very often.

The sticker on my truck door says 11,500 Lbs. I have two 5 ton jack stands when ever I need them.

All I know is that my 3 ton floor jack won't budge it.

A three ton jack wont't budge it????? Maybe your jack needs a rebuild. Try weighing your truck. I have. The front axle with full fuel, me and no load in the bed, comes in at 2.08 tons. That's 4,160 lbs. My trucks total weight is 7000lbs. If you're just lifting each front side you're only lifting 2,080lbs. Any good 3 ton jack will lift that and a 2.5 ton stand can hold it safely. Of course a 5 ton jack really would be easier to use.

Mine weighed 7740 with me in it (260lbs) and a toolbox with maybe another 200lbs of stuff.
I agree, my 3ton jack lifts my front end, although I'd like to have something more stout. It does just fine.

8250 with me in it and 1/2 tank, now with toolbox/bigger tires probably 8500 range. I had to get a new jack to put my wheels on, my last 3 ton bottle jack died also.

Megacabs must be heavy. 7900# with me in it....

Your weight rating on those jack stands are fine, I have a 3 ton jack and it lifts the front. The only problem with that low of a weight rating is that they are usually not very tall, which on a truck (esp lifted with big tires) i find I needed bigger jack stands to reach (not a fan of the lego block system). I usually use 6 ton stand, overkill, but they reach.

That little sticker doesn't tell you how heavy your truck is, it tells you your governed weight.
