How to get 600 CTD to Sound Like a Diesel
My 600/325 CTD is TOO QUIET!
I don't want want a loud exhaust sound, just want the mechanical 'diesel' sound.
Can anything be done?

1) Put a box on it that adjusts the timing to it's proper level (ie non-stock).
2) Ditch the stock intake for a Scotty Ram Air III, and get rid of the baffles and silencer ring.
3) Straight pipe the exhaust. Better yet, 5" exhaust from the turbo to dual stacks.

How good is your stereo? Maybe someone with a 12 valve could record a CD for you?
Otherwise, you could stick an iron skillet in the clothes dryer...
Seriously, I know where you are coming from. I occasionally drive a 2nd gen company truck, and there is something satisfying about the sound (except it has always had a bit of extra gear whine since the KDP dropped).
Give it time, though, the quiet will grow on you.

I traded in a 98 CTD on this one. I liked the quietness initially but started wanting it to be louder. It has actually gotten a bit louder with mileage. I'm at 32,000 miles now and it sounds much better than when it was new but nowhere close to a 2nd gen.....

I only have 1200 miles on my new baby so far and would really like a more distinct exhaust note so I ordered a MEK from geino's. Just wish it was here so I could get it installed today! My guess is that the cat will keep it plenty quite as to not upset the wife. I have run stright pipes on gas vehicles with just a cat and they sound good!

I just ordered a Banks 4" downpipe and I am going to make my little ole 03 a full 4" system. While I have it all apart I'm going to test straight piping it to see if I like it. If not, then the Magnaflow will go back on...
