How exactly does this work? Is it like the warm up idling the last of the VP44 equipped motors used (somethin like running on 3 cylinders????) ? Or are you able to control yourself through the cruise control.

You go in and have the 18-004-04 tsb done. It uses your cruise control for a high idle when its cold out. You turn your cruise on at idle and in park and hit the set button.
The idle goes up to 1100 rpm's, then if you hit the accell button it raises the idle 100 rpm's each time u hit it till it reaches 1400 rpm's max.
Works really neat for cold weather warm up......

OK...My dealer is killing me!!

I just got back from the dealer. I called them two days ago and asked about TSB 18-004-04. They ran my VIN and said that they could put it in on my truck and enable the high idle. They made me an appointment for this morning. Keep in mind that this is the second time that they have told me they can do it.

I get there and they take my truck back. After about a half hour, the tech comes out and tells me that they can't do it. He says that my engine build date is after the date allowed by the TSB and that my truck will not accept the flash. He also tells me that there is no way to enable the high idle function without performing the flash.

My truck is an 04.5 with a build date of 02/04. My engine's build date is 01/30/04. Can anyone help me with this?

How are you guys getting this feature on your 04.5's???????

Also, I just called DC. They acted like they had no idea what I was talking about. I'm not sure that the lady I talked to even knew what idle meant. I really want this feature on my truck but am tired of fighting with the dealer over it!!

I took mine the the dealer where I bought and they could't do it. (said they could when I called) Took it to another dealer and it took the 10 mins to do it. Complained of poor cab heat and gave them the TSB #. It was also covered under warranty. Truck build date of 10/03.

I also just had the 18-037-04 done..How do I explain to have this done if I now have the new software from the mileage TSB. I have an appointment tuesday for something else so I would like to have this done. Does anyone know the procedure

Newest flash on 2004.5

I just came from my dealer and he installed newest flash on my computer. Several things, my truck is starting easier. Before I often had to hit starter twice to get truck started. I think performance is same or little better. The fast idle my dealer had no idea what this was. He does now. He enabled this on my truck. It does not have to be cold weather for this to work. It is 65 degrees out right now and my fast idle works. My overhead MPG indicator seems to be a little faster (higher) than it was before.

mudpup, on the 04.5 it just needs to be enable through the drbIII, the flash is for 04 and older because the feature was not there. This is also just for auto trannies if you get the lastest flash 18-034-004(I think thats what it is) they still have to go back in and enable the high idle. It is disabled by default

OK GreyTD, you have convinced me to try one more time. I just called the dealer and asked them about what you said in your last post. They said that they didn't know anything about it, but that they would try it. I've got another appointment for Tuesday morning.

Thanks for the info...I hope they can figure out how to do it.

Well, just returned from dealer after having 18-034-04 flashed. Still no high idle feature. Dealer says there is no option for this. I don't think I can convince them to look into this any further.

I'm going back to using my $5.00 idle stick that I found at a truck stop.

When the dealer has your truck hooked up to his hand held computer, he has a bunch of options to dis-able/enable. The high idle is not listed as high idle. It falls under another heading and I am sorry I don't know what it is.

Ok had it done along with pinion factor changed for new tires. I read directions to tech. He punched in and out on the job and the total was 9 minutes to have both done. they charged me $18, I gave the tech a tip and he said no charge for the high enable idle.I had printed directions out from here and said my buddy was a tech in Georgia and sent me the directions for both. He was happy to have them in front of him.

I showed my buddy with a new F250 the high idle on the way home..He said wow thats like a big rig. He said he wishes he bought the Ram w/cummins.
