How does this fuel filter look?
Just changed my fuel filter with a new Baldwin since that is what the local truck shop had and they are good filters. Anyway this is what the old one looked like when I took it out at 25,703 miles (bought the truck with 24,500 miles on it). My question is this the normal appearance after they have been sitting in diesel or this one real dirty?

Everyone, Thanks for the replys I guess it is a normal filth level. The only record of a change that I have is one at 9,000 miles which is one of the only entrys in the service record book, so I guess this one had 16,700 miles on it.
Thanks again

Call me cheap, but I think we are probably throwing away alot of perfectly good filters way early. I pulled my fuel filter after 20K and it looked just like this one, so I put it back in. I think the worry with fuel is water, so I throw the "Dump Lever" on my 04.5 periodically, and since I see no evidence of water damage (distorted pleats) on the filter, I worry not.
I do change oil filters everytime I change oil, but I do not tow, and my manual says I can go 15K. I had doubts, so I changed the first time around 5K, and after putting another 12.5k, I dumped again, but sent a sample in to Monitor, and they reported the oil was still good for a longer interval. I then installed a Frantz Oil Cleaner, went another 15K, and on this last change switched to Redlines synthetic. I plan on changing the Frantz every 2-3K, and the Fleetguard filter at 12-15, but will probably go at least 24-30 on the oil change. Replacing a quart every 2-3K should maintain the additive level just fine. I do plan on sending in another sample somewhere around 16-18K, and I will adjust accordingly.
I have gone as long as 48K in a gasser (hard working Corvair in our VW camper bus) and when I pulled the center plate and checked a couple of rod bearings, they were the same as new. Time Will Tell.
