Loss of power, fuel knocking, black smoke are all symtoms of a bad injector.rev it up to 2500 and let off -if it hangs alot then probably a bad injector.

New to the site and diesels...I purchased new 2004 2500 4x4 5.9L QC Laramie. Pull a 41ft toyhauler once every two months or so. Two weeks ago, took a trip with the family to Cherokee Nat Forest in NC and no problems great experience. The truck is going on 82k miles...no problems what's so ever. Keep up maint. as per owner's manual. I hear a lot of talk about foul injectors and today in another forum...heard this old timer talking about the use of kerosone to clean his fuel system and injectors. 5 gals of kerosene to 40 of fuel. What do you guys think?

I haven't heard about the kerosene but alotta guys..myself included are running syn. two stroke oil. I use the super tech brand from wallys and mix it one ounce per gallon. It will add lubricity for todays sorry azz fuel that we are getting. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't run synthetic oil, Synthetic doesn't burn as well. If you want to keep fuel system cleaner, use Howe's Fuel Supplement and once and a while use Howes Meaner Cleaner(i think thats the name). I use a little Howes at each fill up, 250,000+ miles and still going strong.

I'm with roughstock, use a good fuel additive. I use stanadyne performance formula, I get it from my local injection shop. I have used power service, howes, and schaeffers. They all work good. I also use regular 2-stroke oil as a fuel lube, the synthetic doesn't burn as well. Also if you have a leaking injector, check your oil to see if you have gain oil instead of using it.

At 18k miles, 6k of it towing a 9k lb fiver, I have had the number 2 injector replaced by the dealer. The idle at start up was rough, smoked like a mosquito fogger, and sounded lots more noiesy. The tech said you can hear a bad injector. Well, anyway, after 1 thousand miles, I've got the same problem again. So now they are going to replace all 6 injectors, and do some kind of reflash with the computer. I have been told this is common in the 06's due to some kind of computer program. Apparently, the
'05 don't have this issue. I hope this is going to fix the issue as it's started to concern me for the trucks future once out of warranty.
