How do you check for codes...
#2
Put your key in the ignition and cycle it on and off 3 times without starting the engine and on the last time leave it in the on position. If you have any codes they should pop up. If there is more than one code, then a few seconds later the 2nd code will come up and so on. If there are no codes or when it is done.......it will say "Done".

Mike, Just go to the page you want to link to.........and highlight the URL window. Right click and copy it. Then come back to DTR and the DTR page you want to post a reply in and in that block........right click and paste the URL. Voila.

The key on-off doesn't work on the 06's. Kinda makes ya think DC doesn't want you to konow what is REALLY wrong with your truck.

The key on/off method works very well on the '06 model's.
I've used it on mine without any issues at all. You just have to do it quick and make sure you don't go all the way back to the "lock" position on the ignition switch. Just toggle it between the "on/run" and "off" three times ending in the "on/run" and it will display the codes, if any.

It displays on the odometer. At least the 04.5 trucks do........im guessing the 06's display there as well.

I'm not sure about 06 models but on my 05, you can also get your Instrument Codes by having the key OFF, push and HOLD the trip button, turn the key to the ON position. Cluster should take off moving everything around, when it comes back to normal it will read codes if it has any.
I have ALWAYS had a 0d 40 type of code. The FIRST (left) code is the actually code, the 2nd (right) code is how many times it has been reported since getting reset or something. Not important.
I found out that the 0d code is a signal too high for my PRND21 switch.
Maybe that is why I haven't had any problems with the truck backing up by itself when in Park and still running. So I have always just left that code there. LOL
