Many people call the overhead a "lieometer". Hand calculating the mileage is the best method.

I was afraid of that. Now the question is what causes poor fuel mileage on this 05?

If you have 200,000 miles on the injectors, then I would look into the injectors as being suspect.

Things to look at are fuel filter, air cleaner, tire size change, and not recalculating computer, tire pressure, my 06 drops down to 20.5 app. from 21 to 22mpg on paper, if the fuel filter and S&B air filter are dirty, just what I have found in 138k cheer`s

Mine consistently reads 3 to 4 mpg higher than what I hand calculate.
In addition to what has already been mentioned, terrain, wind and driving habits also have an effect on mpg's.

I've seen the lie-o-meter between 7 MPG and 27 MPG in both my trucks. I hate saying this, but hand calculation is the only way to go with these trucks.

My overhead is about 8 mpg generous for non towing. Towing it is about 4 mpg generous. Hand calculated is the only way. 18-19 mpg hand calculated, 26-27 on the overhead solo for highway driving, 14-15 mpg city mpg by hand, and 22-23 overhead for city. Towing 10.5 by hand, 14-15 on overhead.

To add to suggestions; change air filter every 2nd oil change along with fuel filter. Fully inflate tires to at least what is on the door pillar. Drive as though an egg was between your foot and the pedal. Push it easy so you don't break the egg. You can learn to accelerate fairly quickly without stomping the pedal to the floor. The hardest is keep the speed below 70 mph! I stomp the pedal to the floor, once during each tank, to blow out the soot when I am on a longer trip and fully warmed up usually on an expressway on ramp.

Mine usually reads about 2 miles higher than actual hand calculated the older the truck has got. It use to be .5 to .7 back when it was newer.
