Not sure if you have tried the way we 03 owners bring up the hour meter but it is worth a shot on your 04.

Here's how:

When the trip odometer reset switch button is pressed and held for longer than about six seconds with the ignition switch in the On position and the engine speed message from the PCM is zero, the trip odometer information will be momentarily displayed, then the engine hours information will be displayed. The VFD must be displaying the odometer information when the trip odometer reset switch button is pressed in order to toggle to the engine hours display. The engine hours will remain displayed for about thirty seconds, until the engine speed message is greater than zero, or until the ignition switch is turned to the Off position, whichever occurs first.

i think he meens the overhead console. press the "step" button, and see if it comes up. there shouild be a trip odometer, an economy guage, an hour meter,a Distance to Empty, and of course compass, and temp.

Follow Gasman's advice, it's the trip/odometer in the dash not the overhead that displays the hour meter for "engine hours". Last I checked mine had 219 hours on it.

both are right sort of

The hour meter is in the dash and cannot be reset. the one on the overhead console is an elapsed hour meter ( can be reset).

when I push the step button on my overhead display I get one empty display as in nothing is showing. Do you all get this? On my wifes 300M she has two fuel mileage counters. One for immediate MPG fuel economy and one for I guess elapsed MPG. Anybody have BOTH?

the blank screen is normal(for mine anyways) and there is no instantaneous meter either ( I wish it was there).

dodgedude361,

I think you misunderstood me. I have exactly what fanofthewolf has. The 300M does not have a blank step setting, so I was wondering if anyone has the 2 MPG counters like the wifes car, but it looks like the answer is no.

The time display on my overhead console is for Elapsed Time (ET). It shows the "accumulated ignition ON time since the last reset". You can reset it to show how long you have been on the road since you left home, etc... The engine hour meter displayed on my odometer will show the hours on my engine (idling included). It cannot be reset, and may be valuable information to used truck buyers, or for changing oil if you do a lot of idling, etc...
