Guys, Thank goodness the initial owner of my truck was 65 and never drove above his age. I got it at 7,000 km and it was properly broken in. Putting a pressure box on a new truck and driving the snot out of it is just breakin it not breakin it in. I was at a diesel mechanics place the other day. He was pulling what was left of the pistons out of a 2005 Duramax. I won't say which box was being used but it was one of the ones without egt defueling. I didn't see the pistons but apparently two of eight were destroyed and the the others were gone. The guy has more money than brains. I remember him trying to smoke me on the bypass highway. I was towing an 8000 pound dump trailer and he was towing a 20' low flat with a Bob Cat and accessories. I got to about 1150 egt on 2 5 and he was just constant smoke. I was locked in 3rd and he was dropping back. After that he probably stacked something else cause he's the kind of guy who hates to get spanked. Oh, by the way he was at the private mechanics because his warranty was voided and the GM estimate was over $6000 with no warranty. If you play stupid you pay your own way. ks

how about you just mount a camera pointed at your turbo/manifold with an in cab moniter so you can see when it is glowing red. then you will know when to shut it down.

OK - one more question - or at least maybe something to consider - if the probe is seeing these high temps fairly consistently (for those of you with stacked boxes, etc.), and you've installed your EGT probe pre-turbo, what guarantee - or at least what comfort level - do you have that the probe will hold up to those temperatures over time? Are the probes built with the same metals as the pistons? I sure don't know.... I'd hate to see one of those probes fail and fall into the turbo...

EGT probe failure is very, very rare, I would not worry about that. They are built from stainless steel.
