Holley Blue vs Holley Black
Holley Blue vs Holley Black
I've been having some trouble with my BD Aux. pump, (Carter) replaced it once under warranty, but I'm thinking if it goes again, I'll be getting a Holley to replace it. So any input would be helpful. Holley Blue vs Holley Black. Also, I know all about the fuel pump Gods, and if I could pick one up for under a $100 then tell me about it.

I did a quick check and the black is also compatible with alchohol and methanol, but the blue is not. Not sure if this matters or not.
Anyone ever try the VoluMAX line of pump? It says they are a gerotor type in-line pump designed for EFI applications. Also compatible with alcohol.

Hi AlCorr,
Did you remove you cannister pump?
Stock600 says the trick to keeping Holleys alive is to remove the screen in the pump. It cloggs and the pump dies.
If you look on ebay you can get a holley (knock off) PROCOMP for about 50 dollars the red, blue or black. The point being you could buy two for the price of a holley and keep a spare.
I hope you get a good answer on the blue vs black because that is an option I am considering. I have read that the black cost more so some just went with the blue however on ebay they are the same price.

I'm thinking that the black is also compatible with gas, alcohol and methanol and the blue with gas only, maybe the black would be better to use with diesel. But I do have a friend that's using a blue with good luck so far.

I've emailed Holley 3 time in the past 3 weeks asking their advise on if they were compatible with diesel and to date I have had NO reply from them.

I've been running the holly blue in conjuction with the stock pump for about 3 months, no problems let. Mounted on frame rail, to stock pump, filter, then to a 2 micron spin on and 3/8 line to CP3. I drilled and tapped the filter head and placed the sensor for line pressure there. Before I had 4-5 psi@ idle and would draw to zero at WOT. Now, 20psi@ idle and 18@ WOT. Pretty happy with the results for under $200. Got the Holly at Autozone for $100.

cjhauler,
What needs to be done to install the pump inline? Do you need to cut out a section of the factory hard lines? Do you need to flare the ends and buy additional fittings?

ptgarcia,
I cut the steel line with a small tubing cutter, no flares, used brass barbed fittings on the pump and short sections of 3/8 fuel line. I used the high pressure line because it seems to hold it's shape in the bends better than the lighter fuel line. I made a bracket that bolts to a existing frame brackets ( so no holes drilled in frame, bracket is on the top of the frame rail a few inches behind the transfer case, driver side) and mounted the pump with rubber grommets. You can here it run at startup (not to loud but more than the factory pump) but no vibration at all.

i ran a holley black after i put nozzles on my 98.5 cummins. I never had any problem with fuel pressure dropping and when I pressed the pedal down, they exhaust showed that I was getting plenty of fuel

I installed the Holley Black about a month ago. It's been work fine and I'm running about 22lbs. at idle and 18-20 down the road. I can hear it at idle while sitting still but not down the road. I also left the stock pump in place and I'm pushing through it fine. The stock did not fail but would not keep up while my quad was on 60hp and towing it would start to stumble, now no more stumble.
