High Idle - No Cruise Control

I have been searching thru the high idle threads and haven't seen anything useful to me.

Is there a way to enable the high idle on my ST model truck. It doesn't have cruise so I can't use those buttons.

Can the dealer still enable it and I use a different button? Is there just a pin that I can put on a switch to ground or 12v that will enable it?

Thanks

I am in the same boat as you. I bought the ST model also cause I work out of the truck and didnt want all the nice carpet and such to get all dirty. I tried posting on here a while back and nobody could answer the question. I asked the dealer and they told me that it could not be done without a new computer or something(I dont think they knew how to do it either). If you do find out a way to get it to work, PLEASE let me know!!!

I might have it.

I took the steering wheel apart and the wiring is there for the cruise buttons, so I am gonna buy the factory buttons and see what happens.

I just need someone to check for me and see if the 2005 steering wheel is the same as the 2004.5. Please???

You can buy the buttons and install the cruise control for about $38.00.

I asked the dealership guys if I could just buy the cruise buttons like you guys say and make it work....they said that it would not work because I would need a new ECM and a few other items that my truck didnt come with due to the lack of getting the cruise. Has anybody just bought the cruise buttons for a non cruise equipped truck and made this feature work? Please let us know, cause I would love to have this feature.

I can tell you on an 05 ST it will work, I got both switches(buttons) for 28.00 shipped to my house. Install took less than 20minutes.As a saftey item disconnect neg battery terminals before removing airbag from steering wheel. Also never believe dodge technicans MOST (not all)have no clue !!!!! I was also told it wouldn't work, but with the wiring already there I figured for the price of the switches it was worth a try and no big loss if it didn't..

Yes it will work. The ecm only needs to see a request for cruise to enable the feature. No new ecm needed or anything else. Pretty straight and forward. don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Providing that the wiring is already in the steering wheel, which almost always is anymore.

The switches will work on 04.5, but what do I need to do to make the high idle work?

The only thing you need to make the high idle work is for the dealer to use his scan tool and to enable this feature. Do a search and it is explained in detail somewhere and if nothing else print out the directions and take them to your dealer. Most techs, if they have done much work on the diesels, know how to turn it on. Takes them all of 5 minutes with the scan tool to do it.

good and bad news...

I got the switches. They fit great.

When I hit the cruise on/off button, the cruise light on the dash lights up.

But, When I hit the set button, the cruise doesn't kick in. I made sure and tried above 45 and above 50 and it never worked. Would I need to reset the ecm or anything before it works?
