High idle ??

Have read numerous posts on here about a "high idle" feature being enabled/disabled. Never heard of this. I did a forum search for "high idle" because my 06 wants to automatically raise idle to 1000 RPM after 2 minutes (about) of sitting at 700 +/- normal RPM. It will go up to 1000 every time you let truck idle, cold, warm or after driving for hours. Is this normal? Is this part of the "fast idle" feature I have read about , or something entirely different?

depending on the ambient temperture (not sure degrees) they all (don't remeber first yr of truck that does, but i'll say 2000 and up) idle up to 1000rpm automatically, even after driving for awhile. The high idle feature that is talked about is the one that you control through the use of the curise control buttons. It idles up to 1100rpm when engaded and you can control it up to 1500rpm, temperature has no effect on this feature, it can be engaded at any time day or night. This feature has to be enabled by the dealer or some programmers will do it to. Also with a stick tranny you need a kit(grd pin?) installed before you can use it.

Please expand. I have the 1000 RPM high idle that comes on automatically, but was unaware of another feature. Is it in the owners manual? Maybe I should read it hu?

If you have an automatic go to the dealer and have them enable the high idle feature so you can use the cruise to use it.

You cannot have this enabled on an 03. Only on an 04 or newer.

You can have it enabled on a manual as well. It just takes a <$20 part from Cummins to get 'r' done.

Idle

Mine only bumps up to 1000 rpm automatically when it is cold(below freezing). It doesn't jump up when the engine is warm. Touching the brake or gas pedal (is it still called a gas pedal in a CTD?) will disable it.
Haven't tried to cruise control method of turning on/off.

if you complain to the dealer about poor cab warm up they should be able to look up the proper TSB it. For the 04 and 04.5 trucks the ECM has to be reflashed first then enable. For the 05 and up it's there already and only needs to be enabled.

Riddler69 gas pedal only in gas truck go pedal, skinny pedal, smoke pedal, anything but gas pedal for diesel

My 03 with high output has the fast idle but only does it on extreme cold days.

That's OEM from the factory on all of them. The idle being discussed is the one owner controllable through the cruise control buttons - a little more to it with manuals, but doable.
