Ok...well, I guess I'll go to the dealer and have a complete flush done. Hopefully I haven't done any damage already...this seems ridiculous. I have run boats with engines from CAT, Cummins, Detroit, MAN, EMD, etc and never had to be this picky with coolant. Not sure why these are so special.

Dosen't matter, I guess....I'll just flush it all out & do it right.

Thanks for all the help

Service manual says to take the thermostat out, unhook the radiator hoses, fill block with water, flush until clean and then blow out with air. I dont know what all the differences are between Hoat and oat antifreeze but everything I read says dont mix the two.

Ok...well...thanks for the info, but that's not going to happen. I've got no place to dump ethylene glycol contaminated water, and I doubt any ship around here will want to deal with that.

Where is everyone reading this??? (other than on the internet)

I'm pretty frustrated with all this. My dealer told me that I could add any extended life antifreeze...which is obviously wrong. Also, you would think if this is such a major problem with significant consequences, that it would be made more publicly known to CR Cummins owners (like maybe on the bottle of antifreeze!?). I'm very careful with my truck, using only the best fluids, synthetic oils, do all my own work and consider myself pretty well read on the subject. The only place I've ever heard about this is on these forums. I'd have to say that I'm like the majority of owners and don't have the time to spend hours on the internet chatting on forums...so what about those guys? There are thousands of owners that have NO idea about this and their trucks last for 400K plus with who knows what brand of truck stop antifreeze used to top off their rigs when that's all they had available (like me)

When I changed my thermostat and upper radiator hose, I used Peak's Final Charge Global antifreeze for diesel engines...clearly marked as a safe top off for ALL brands of antifreeze and exceeds specs for CAT, Cummins, Detroit, etc, etc. So if my engine blows due to liner cavitation erosion..I guess I'll take a coolant sample and start a lawsuit...LOL

Not saying in any way that this is bad information...just an observation.

Still...now that I know...I'll do it right. When I get a flush done, I'll buy a couple extra gallons and keep it with me. If my engine blows up, I'll start another thread...I don't think that's going to happen for another 300K or so

Thanks for reading my rant and for all the good information keeping me on track here. I thought I was going to be careful and do everything perfectly with this truck...guess I'll have to wait for the next one
