HELP! Torque converter cooler leaking
Does anyone know of where I could source a new one online cheaper than the dealerships? It's listed as a Torque Converter Cooler/ Heat Exchanger Part #5086946AA supersedes to #68004317AA. This item bolts onto the drivers side of the engine. The dealer wants $800 Can. and I cannot seem to source a aftermarket version online. Any help would be appreciated

Pretty sure it's the torque converter cooler. All my transmission fluid is ending up in the coolant overflow/recovery tank on the passenger side fender well. Nothing on the driveway/ground anywhere. It started with a shifting problem due to low trans level. Couldn't figure out where it was going till it spilled over. Then it wasn't hard to see that it wasn't the pink antifreeze but rather the ATF oil. Thanks for the info guys, I'm checking it out

I thought about going the used route but it's one of those things where you don't know what you're going to get. My mechanic called the Dodge dealership today and they said these little coolers have become quite the hot commodity. 19 sold Alberta wide this month. Sounds to me that Dodge knows about a problem they're not willing to issue a TSB about. I broke down and am getting the new one through my mech. for $733. Apparently this one is redesigned. It comes with "new style" fitting requiring a new style hose as well. So there goes my Diesel Manor Trans line that was T'd for my ATF+4 temp gauge. The fun just never ends!!!! So far it looks like only the trans fluid is going accross to the coolant and not vise versa. The Dodge Tech said that if any coolant touches some bands in the trans it'll be pooched as well. Maybe I'll get that souped up trans I've been trying to talk the Mrs into after all!

19 out of several hundred thousand, if not a million is not a known problem. I've known alot of guys that have all had several of these trucks. I've had several myself. Not of of those has been an issue.

That was one of my first thoughts. Just bypass it! My Mech. said that it's possible it could affect shifting. He wasn't sure if the computer looked at the temperature of the trans fluid or not but if it does, then it's best to have it online. It's there for a reason right? Especially on the cooler -30 C mornings. It goes in to the shop tonight. The cash out cuts into my Turbo upgrade but thats the price for drive'n!
