HELP - I need your opinions!
Here is the story, I have an 04 Dodge 4X4 quad cab w/the long box. I've got 25K on the OD. It has NEVER been into the dealer for anything but the Trans Line recall. My buddy has the EXACT same truck but a different color. EXACTLY! Both trucks are 555's. Both are 3:73's. We were towing this last weekend and towing almost identical loads. About 7500lbs when said and done. Almost the exact same number of occupants.... etc. etc.
Here's where it gets messy. I have a full 4"exhaust, and an Edge EZ on level 4. I chose to use the elbow on my turbo. He's got absolutely nothing. I was able to set cruise at 70mph up Baker Grade in CA, in overdrive and relax. That said, I could have pushed it more in third, but the egt's were around 1300 - 1350, so I left it at 70 w/egt's of 1280 or so. My buddy was able to walk up beside me and pass me at will. Now I know that he could have got real lucky and got one in a million, but does anyone have any answers. I believe that he has had his truck in for diff lube changes, trans recall and again after they forgot to tighten a fitting on trans, and they may have flashed his computer with something after he complained of milage.
1st off. Is there an updated flash for the 04's at 555?
My truck is at least 10mph better after the EZ, how is it possible that he is bone stock and able to out tow me?
Would a change in the exhaust hurt actually hurt performance? Oh , I've got a MagnaFlow Muffler on my 4inch down, and whole exhaust.
HELP!!!!

are you sure he didnt hide somthin under the hood
I dont have an ez
but
ive been told they fall on their face at high rpm
dont take it to the bank but thats what Ive heard
otherwise , simple answer,
if you have high egt's and low power
check for boost leaks
do u have a boost gauge?

Yes I do have a boost guage and yes there is a leak. It's supposed to be that way in that the elbow has a small hole in it so that the wastegate doesn't open prematurely.
When I'm into the peddle, I'm at 34-35psi. The truck seems to run great, I just don't get the difference.
Also, we both filled up and pulled the loads. I used a third of a tank and he used a quarter.
No other comments?

I wonder if your boost fooling is not working right and the computer is cutting back the fuel. There was a discussion about aftermarket exhaust and how it reduces power. But with exhaust temps that high, hmmm.
Maybe somebody put some anvils in your load, right next to the hidden sailboat keels, under the bricks, behind the fishing weights, in front of the extra Cummins crankshafts. Just a thought.

Trust me WET, I was looking for the anchor behind my toy box!!!
I've got a call into my service advisor in hopes of finding out if there has been ANY TSB's that my truck hasn't received. Probably wont even get a call back but it's worth a try.
Other than that, your guess is as good as mine. I read those posts on Exhaust Work cutting back power, but I can get to 1450 with my EDGE EZ towing heavy pretty easy. Hope that I find something out pretty quick - I'm losing sleep!

Where they both big boxy trailers like your toyhauler or was his smaller but the same wheight? I have found that I can tow a 10000 pound bobcat and trailer eisier than a 5000 pound camper. It has less wind drag. I even get better millage towing the bobcat. Otherwise try taking your EZ off next time and see if your EGTs stay lower alowing you to push it harder.

Yeah what they said.
You can tow a 200# barn door and get crappy mileage if it is broadside and you are pulling against it, but if you put a 5k# boat behind the same truck and run the same route you might forget it's there due to less drag.
IMO I would run the same route with the Edge EZ OFF pulling the same trailer and see if there is a difference.
