Heat intake grid not staying on enough??
normally In the morning it usually stayed on for about 5 or 6 seconds
temp is like 65f on my edge computer starts up right away
this week it only stays on for like 1 second then i start and it has to crank 2 or 3 times longer to start
what controls how long the grid stays on?
is the grid screwed? or a temp sensor?

It would help to know what truck you have. If you find the "User CP" and fill in your 'Signature', it will help. Your slowdown in starting may not be associated with your grid heater.
Back to morning brew. . .

My heater light varies by staying on for a few seconds, up to a half a minute. The computer knows how long it needs to stay on. Try turning your ignition on, wait for the light to go out, then switching back off and on, a couple of times. This warms up the grid heater, see if this makes starting any faster.

65 is right around the temperature the grid will come on, but the other thing that is happening with key on is the lift pump starts to run pumping fuel to the CP3. Measuring a second or two is pretty tight tolerances. I don't think you have a problem.

There was also a TSB to reflash the computer to cure long crank times below freezing...

Also, do you have any codes? If you lost a temp sensor it would likely see too big of a difference between the coolant, intake, and battery temp sensors and it may have set something.

My 06 does the same thing...When the temp is around 50-68 degrees on the first cold start of the day, it cranks for a sec, then acts like it misses a fire and cranks 2 more seconds. If fires off normally after that. And it only does that every 10 or 15 cold starts, so I cant narrow it down. It never takes over 3 seconds to start. Just weird it does it at those temps, not colder or hotter.

do not worry about the crank time. the grid heater is not needed and most of us do away with them. many vendors have the delete block and even cummins sells them, none of the non autimotive 5.9 engines have them. glacer, fbd, winspeed and others make them. i live near a ski run and it gets below 0* several times in the winter with no problems.
