As far as the dealer... They have a procedure to check the back flow (return fuel flow). If the total value is to high, then it can be isolated one place at a time. i.e. each injector, and the relief valve.

Thanks. I am having he same issue with it taking a long time to crank over.

I may have the same issue. If i don't turn the key on and wait about 30 seconds for the lift pump to turn off. It is a GDP lift pump mine will just crank and crank and may start may not till i recycle and wait. When it does start it puffs lot of black smoke? Is this an indiciation of the injectors going bad? Also when the truck is warmed up it now has a haze at idle. The haze is so bad at time is almost looks like an over fuled pulling truck. I have only noticied since putting the stacks on the truck but it has done more sitting than driveing this year.

I had the same hot start issues as many others with an 03. Spent many hours searching posts and trying other peoples fixes. Finally bit the bullet and replaced the injectors with 50 hp injectors from Dynamite Diesel. No more hot start problem. It's been 3 months now. I also upgraded the fuel filter system with a 2 micron filter. I would highly recommend this to prolong the life of the new injectors.

Spoke with a guy that runs an injector shop and has been dealing with it for years. They are only seeing them last about 150k to 200k miles and about 350k on over the road trucks. He suspects as many times as they fire these injectors for emmission componets it is shorting their lives. In 2003 there is 2-3 injector event and they are just wearing out.

My hard start happens only intermittently. would that eliminate the leaky injectors? Even after leaving it for a while, say over night or so, it only happens intermittenly.

Mine was intermittent at first and got progressivly worst. The 05 are supposed to be better but some folks say it is all of them. I see you have smarty if you are using the rail pressure setting it could be straining them and wearing them out. My guess if not something electical then they are staring to wear. When my rebuilds get in it will have 2 micron filter after the factory filter and it will have a lubricating aditive in every tank from now on.

What additive yo gonna use? I have been throwing around the idea off adding a little bit of oil or mystery oil with each tank. I have heard of people using trans fluid too. If I could find a place close enough I will get a bunch of bio and add each some each tank. But that won't happen any time in the even the far off future. Because some of those additives are pricey as heell

Now that I have the new injectors in I have been using Stanadyne. Hopefully this will protect them a little better. I used to use Power Service and will when I can't get my hands on the Stanadyne.

I tell you what though, she fires right up with the new ones in. Knock on wood!!!

Stanadyne, power service are all good choices. The place that is doing the work for me has one he recommends but the name of it escapes me. Yep they cost a little but at 300-500 a piece for brand new it believe it is cheap insurance. Plus my truck now sits more than it is driven so I think it will be well worth it in my situation.

And if that is the case how could I get the retards at the dealership *********** to correctly diagnose this before my 70k mile warranty is up.
Sounds like you have a injector allowing fuel to leak from the common rail into a cylinder, you should get that looked at before you bend a connecting rod.

The problem is that the closest dealer with any Diesel techs is over an hour away! And how would I suggest to them to check that problem?

Thanks
