Does anybody know how to get the 48re auto trans, to shift more smooth? that banging into gear is about to drive me nuts. I would think that there is a way to adjust the thing to shift more smooth. Any info would help. Thanks

 

I'd like to see if anyone comes up with something here, as "smooth shift" and "48RE" aren't usually used in the same sentence.

 

Mine seems to shift fine to me. I have sort of learned how to drive it in that when getting on the highway, I can accelerate kinda hard....then let off slightly around 50-60 mph or so and it will go into o/d. Then it will pull like a train with the Cummins torque.


Have you changed out your trans fluid and filter? I have changed mine twice....at 15k and 30k. I am at 41k now and plan to change it again at 45k. I think keeping fresh fluid and filter in it helps the shifting.

If that doesn't help it, then maybe it needs an adjustment of some sort.

 

Mine does not bang into gear. Sometimes I would like for it to shift a little harder.
