My 04.5 will jump up to around 1000 RPMs on it's own after running about two minutes with outside air temp somewhere below freezing. Tap the pedal and it goes to normal. Cruise buttons have no effect. Not sure how this fits in the discussion, but I think this is the stock configuration. What say you?

That is the automatic high idle. He had the manual high idle turned on that use the cruise control buttons. I had to have my truck reflashed to make it work. Dealer enabled it, no worky, reflashed and enable and all was well. This was before the Smarty...LOL

yes. that is the stock "automatic" hi idle. if you want to be able to "turn on" the high idle, you must have the feature "enabled" in the cotrollers programing.

did the dealer pay you for having to help them? That is ridiculous.

Many dealers enable the system as part of the PDI. They don't come from the factory already enabled.

I had mine enabled several years back somewhere in Montana. Can't remember exactly where but this was the friendliest and most helpful dealership I have ever been too.

It's worked like a charm ever since and it's a super slick feature.

Much different from the cold weather 'on it's own' high idle feature. I'll use it in cold weather, when jumpstarting someone else's weak car that does not come with two batteries, warming up on a cold day before heavy towing, or giving the TT a little juice on a cold morning to keep the batt's above 12.00

I go to the dealer and ask them to do what? Enable the PTO? I want to be sure they know what I'm asking for. Thanks

Tell them the cab is slow to heat and you want the manual high idle enabled. Took me two trips to the dealer to get it done correctly. There was no charge.

If you don't know what you are asking for by now, go buy a Toyota.

Also you can use the "search" at top of this thread. type in "5.9 high idle". this will make your day.

Okay, thanks to all for the information and link to TSB. Now i have my terminology straight so I will not be at a disadvantage when I take it in. I haven't had a chance to get technically connected to my Dodge because I haven't used it much and spend all my tinkering time trying to keep the Jeep on the road.

Maybe I should have asked in someone else's thread... or used the search feature... my apologies to the OP. I'll make an effort not to participate in your threads again.

Oh I don't know.. I'm pretty patient, but I feel 07's pain... I believe he plainly explained it several times.

I've really posted some EDIT remarks here and I promise to try to control myself in the new year. I know it's really easy to start a thread that says 'which tires are best' - 'what does this code mean' - which oil should I use' and the all time killers 'Help' or Have you ever' or 'figure this out' posts that have a header that just don't describe what the topic is....

I haven't been here long, but already I'm tired of questions that get repeated every two weeks.... The search is a great feature....

Merry Christmas all....
