Same here. Dad just sold his 94' 3500 dually 10 months ago. Had 400,000+ miles and only replaced the clutch. No grid heater failure and never heard of one.

Mine doesn't even have wires hooked up to it!
I was thinking of getting a glacier block and intake elbow to remove the restrictions

The connection is not complete. There is no ground. The B+ wires are on the other side.

They ground through the housing. They all look like that.

My solenoid works when cold enough, but the heater does not get warm. I checked with a meter, but no continuity on the side of the photo shown.
I will recheck when the weather is cold enough.
In my experience with the grid heaters on 6BTA marine engines......there is a buss between those studs on 12V system, and a ground wire. There are also two solenoids as the system cycles both grids. I have not really sat down and studied the electrics of this system. The drawing in the '07 book shows a ground. I will check and see if there is resistance today between the stud and case of the heater.

I hope I am not hijacking this thread.....

Thanks.

Once I climbed up on top of the engine I could look down and see the cable hooked up to the other side. Traced that back to the pass side to the solenoid

Danavilla is correct. The connection is complete through the housing. When it is cold enough here I will recheck. Since I first checked this I had the grid heater lose to install my boost connection in the intake elbow. I also noticed lots of clear paint on everything.
This system also only uses one solenoid for the heater. There is a B+ wire from the solenoid to the heater, which is bussed to both posts on the side you can't see in the above photos.
Good day when I learn something. Thanks.

When buying the GDP intake horn they offer a grid heater for a little extra. Does the GDP horn it's self eliminate our stock one, hence the reason why we have to buy their heater to actually have one?

ok, but when it's -20* here what is going to heat up my incomming air? If it's on the truck now and i'll need it in the winter i'd like to keep it on there. So you can't run a aftermarket intake horn and still keep your grid heater?
