It AFAIK, dealers can only update existing code base or flash a blank ECU, they don't seem to be able to take an already loaded ECU and flash it for a different truck.

In my case I sawpped in a used motor that came with its own ECM. I just left it on when I swapped the motor in. Upon trying to start it the engine would fire then die and the little red secruity light on the dash would blink. Swapping in the original ECM off of the removed motor solved the problem and the truck fired up. I don't know if this would effect a non-sentry equipped truck or not. Try it and let us know.

Worst case scenario if it doesn't work I don't see why you couldn't take the truck to a dealer and have them install the computer and re-program the BCM to accept it.

Whats wrong with the truck anyway that you want to swap ECMs?
here is the list of problems, started in the HELP section

Thats what mine did. The only suggestion I have I to tow it to the nearest dealer and have it programed. I don't think it can be done out of the truck.

To save the tow charge you could put the original ECM back in, limp it over to the dealer and then put the new ECM in and have them program it.

..and after they can't get it to run he can either have it towed home or again change the ECU back the correct one to get the truck to run. If you find a dealer that can reflash for VIN change, post it up so the rest of us can send our ECU's to them and have it done. NONE to this point have proven to me they can do it and everyone I asked said NOPE.
