Got Flashed Today......WOW!!
I went to my local dealer and asked for the 18-037-04 flash. He stated that he would have to set an apointment for me to come back. He said that he would have to check the engine mfr date and the ser. # to see if it applies to my truck. I informed him that I had already checked all of that and I was good to go. Never the less, he still would not do it today. I called the dealer 35 miles away and told him what I wanted. He told me to bring it on in and he would have it done while I waited. A 35 mile drive and one hour later I was Flashed and ready to go.
Now for the good part. Ever since I received the truck on Feb 2nd it has had this awful clatter at take off that sounded like a three cylinder Festiva running on one. Now it's alllll better. My baby runs like a top. I just thought it had power before. WOW! On top of the increase in power I was averaging 17 mpg, now I'm seeing 20.5 mpg. I filled up right after I left the dealer and have driven aprox 200 miles since. I just filled again before coming home and hand calculated 20.4 mpg.
I wish I had gotten the flash a long time ago. I drive on avg 1,000 miles/week and the company pays me 36.5 cents per mile the extra 3 mpg is really going to add up. I was kinda sour about having to pay $48 for the flash, I think I'll let it slide now.

You should'nt have had to pay for the flash......
I don't think anyone else did. It'll take a while till the .03 cents pays for the $48 buck for the flash..............

I wasn't sure but I didn't think I should have paid for it either.
It's not .03 cents its 36.5 cents/mile. At 17 mpg I was earning an average of $6.20 per gallon of diesel. At 20 mpg I should earn an average of $7.30 per gallon. $1.10 per gallon more.

I just made an appointment to have mine done on Friday. I have a January-built "600". It runs smooth as silk, but if my mileage can be improved, then what the heck.
I just told the service manager I had white smoke and poor mileage, and he said bring it in.

Yeah I had a pretty nice increase also. I was running 14.5-15.5 prior to the reflash. I got 16.5 overhead and 16.75 had calculated after the flash on my first tank. I have the 4.10 and do at least 50% of my mileage on the highway at 2200-2300 rpm.

What is this high idle thing and do I need it? I just got back from the reflash yesterday and I love what it did, smoother exceleration and smoother shifts. Mileage appears to be a lot better but I will wait a few tanks and check it by hand calculations.

I am wondering if the dealer did the flash or not (or the correct one)
Mine lost about a 1/2 mpg and runs the same. Overhead is close (about 1/2 mpg off)
They did not place the sticker on the rad support as DC directs.
How can I verify it was done ??????

Do you have another dealer nearby? Have them check and tell them you do not think the other dealer did it and they did not place a sticker under the hood.

I took mine in last Friday, dealer closest to me Hee Hawed around wanted an appointment etc. , Dealer where I bought it, took less persuasion. Truck has less clatter, feels to have more low end power, easier to drive in traffic. Don't have enough miles to check milage yet, but overhead indicates about a 2 MPG increase which would put it dead on with hand calculated.

I had the TSB and high-idle enable done this morning. My dealer was very accomodating and knew what I was talking about. Makes a world of difference. My avg mpg went up almost 3.0 from 16.6 to 19.5 (same 217 miles driven - 30%city/70%) freeway).
Overhead now agrees with hand-calc. Seems after re-flash truck accelerates better and shifts smoother. Sounds a little louder too and love it!! Never had white smoke nor ping to start with so no relevance there.
