Goodbye S&B, installed stock airbox & Amsoil EA

I got sick of cleaning the S&B (and waiting for it to dry) and buying filter cleaning kits. I also had dust in the intake tube after one cleaning, maybe two. Probably not a reflection on the S&B filter itself but with how difficult it is to ensure a proper fit between the filter and intake tube each time you reinstall the filter after cleaning. I think they may have a new design now, so take that observation with a grain of salt. I'm not knocking S&B, it's just not for me.

I'm keeping it around for now just in case I change my mind, but it may show up here on the classifieds someday....

I just bought a spare filter, there's always a clean one ready to go on the shelf.

Thumbs up Stock airbox.

I just went with the stock airbox, psm downtube and a AFE PG7 dropin. Works great and zero turbo whistle over stock. I just can't handle someone whistling in my ear. My Amsoil dropin seemed to have too much of a gap along the sides, although no dust was noted in the intake tube.

Yep, I got tired of the oily mess and drying, out the filter scenario too. I went with the Amsoil dry filter too. I still used the AFE Stage II box though, and found the right diameter flange on the filter.

The Amsoil filter is junk! 40,000 miles on it and I have clean it 3 times with a shop vac. Looks like the dust in the filter was wet from the damp air and the shop vac will not clean it. I ended up putting the oem filter back and it flows more air. Must be a better way to clean the Amsoil filter.

Geez..NOW you guys tell me. When I researched the Amsoil EA on the site before I bought it, everybody only had GOOD stuff to say about it.

Oh well, as long as it lasts as long as two NAPA golds (Wix) it'll have paid for itself.

Have you tried to warranty it?

I am happy with mine. UOA showed 20ppm of silicon at 10K, and 20 at 15K, so I am "guessing" the silicone was from break-in... There was lots of dusty driving in those 15K miles.. .

It does need cleaned much more often than advertised, but thats my only complaint. I have one on my wifes gasser as well..

I also found that it flows enough air to make the same HP on SW3, Smarty Jr, as an AFE Stage II.

Napa Gold 2846 air filters are only $13.19 from Fleetfilter. As long as you order in bulk, the shipping is not bad. I usually get 15-20k miles out of a 2846.

I like my Amsoil EA drop in filter to. My intake tube was always clean with the stock filter, and the Amsoil filter hasen't changed anything. It's only double the price of a regular, so it doesn't need to last to long to pay for itself. I clean mine every oil change atleast which is around 5,000 miles. It's barely dirty but I just can't wait so long to clean it
