Getting pretty serious about this 03

Been doing some reading on here about the 03 model trucks.
Truck I am looking at has the 250hp engine, auto, 3:73 gear ratio QC and 8ft. box.
From what I am reading the truck has a 47re transmission? Is this correct? Also have read of some issues about the trans accepting a trans-brake. Read it has issues with the control cable to pcm and an issue with a thrust bearing inside when using a brake. I plan on adding an EB and any more info on these issues would be appreciated.

It also has the electric switch for the 4X4 and I have no experience with this but from what I have read it seems majority of people on here like them.

If I buy this truck I would like to put some sort of controller on it to monitor pressures and temps. It has no gauges currently. What do you all like/reccommend? Friend of mine has an 02 3500 with edge-juice. What are some other options out there?
Any other input from personal experiences with this model truck would be great.
Thanks.

The eighth digit in the VIN identifies the trans, C indicates a 48RE, not sure what digit is used for the 47RE.

There are issues with using an EB on the 03's, both mechanical and electronics. DTT prepped my tranny for an EB when they built it, I know there were a couple of things they addressed, however I don't recall, and I never have installed an EB.

My electronic transfer case switch has worked well, couple of times it was slow in actuating, but selecting drive to reverse or visa/versa and it dis-engaged, always has engaged no problem.

I have Dipricol gauges, but they are out of business, I would now choose Isspro, they are a great match to the factory set, and their night lighting is better than my Dipricols.

The 250hp is absolutely no problem, a Smarty will make it equal to the HO's in all respects horsepower wise. According to Bill/Owner DTT, the 47RE is no problem either, no matter 47/48RE if you add hp, you are going to have to do a minimum of trans upgrades, valve body and TC at least.

Now go get this truck!

I love my 03. Its the 250 hp version with the 47RE. Stock it was embarrassingly slow. I put a used Quadzilla mileage box on it (35HP?) and it made a huge difference. I will eventually be putting a Goerend tranny fully built up for an EB in it. I've been getting 17mpg this winter mostly highway unloaded. I get a couple more mpgs in the summer. Also i've got the 4x4 lever in my truck so I can't comment on the electronic type. I do like the manual lever though because it is instant.
