Gas Pedal working intermittantly

I have done some searches and am not 100% sure about what is going on.

1st symptom - I was on a long drive on the highway and had the truck on cruise. It seemed like the engine was surging a bit.

2nd symptom - next day my wife was driving the truck and the gas pedal quit working all togeher and then started again.

3rd symptom - truck did it to me. The gas pedal seems to work intermittantly.

Yesterday morning, I recalibrated the pedal lik I had read about on this forum and it was fine for the 60 mile trip to my destination. On the way home, it acted up again.

Thoughts?

What year is your truck, and what, if any, things have you done to it over stock...

It will help people be able to troubleshoot your situation better.

Sounds like the APPS is going out and causing the dead pedal. Do the key ON/OFF/ON three times to display any error codes (displays in the odometer). And report back.

Truck is an 03.

Codes are 0633, 0193, 0234 (I am pretty sure these 3 are related to a bad connection on the MPS which I have resolved but not cleared). 2121 and 2122 are new and I think these are related to the current issue with the throttle.

So yah, it looks like the APPS.

Yep, APPS error codes (2121 and 2122).

Get the APPS from Timbo01 on this site and not the dealer, much cheaper and of higher quality. http://www.dodgecumminsapps.com/

Yep 2121 & 2122 are the APPS. Had nearly identical symptoms on my truck. Not sure about your '03, but on my '04.5 it was about a $500 fix at a local repair shop.

The timbo APPS will only work with underhood APPS, not fender well like mine. Might want to check. The underhood apps you will see the box near the head and waterneck, otherwise yours would be like mine, with the cables running into the driver side fenderwell.

This is what I have heard. I have had these problems before, but it only occurs after 1-3 months or so. It wont replicate its problem for me and alot of times i get no codes, just a dead pedal.

I put a 100uF capacitor between the positive and ground wires going to the sensor. So far, it seems to have fixed the problem.

The truck started surging again the other day. It is also cranking and cranking and not starting.

I replaced both batterys. The problem persists.

My guess is a noisy / bad alternator. I have also emailed Timbo01.

Any other suggestions?

Unimog406, presuming your truck is a diesel it does not have a gas pedal.

I replaced both batteries again and the alternator - the old one was putting out just fine but the bearings were pretty noisy. The issue with the truck not starting was / is that if it sat for more than 3 days, the batteries would drain enough that the voltage would drop to less than 12v while cranking. When this happens I jump start it with my 2000 GMC 2500 with 467000 kms (280000 miles) on it - these are mostly HARD oilfield miles with at least 20% off road, starting in -40° not plugged in, and ots of idleing - the engine hour gauge shows something like 12500 hours, oh and one of my co-workers drove it into the Red Deer River and hydrolocked the engine when it was only a few weeks old.

The dead pedal finally came back last week. I may have burnt out my capacitor. I used an electrolytic capacitor last time which is not ideal for this application.

I have ordered a new accs from Timbo but in the mean time and going to 'fix' the old one again.

Mexstan - not only is the truck a diesel, it is also a flaming POS! Worst vehicle I have ever owned. I have poured over $25000 into it in the last year. It would have been way cheaper to daily drive an older Ferrari, or even make payments on a new Porsche 911 Turbo.

I am not trying to troll a thread here, I am stating facts and am incredibly frustrated with this truck.
