G56 truck holds....

Havent heard anything new from any threads here or anywhere else, but I spoke with my buddy on the inside and he said that there is in fact a mechanical problem with the new G56's. He said that DC is aware of the issue and it is quite a serious problem with no quick fix. They have even considered a recall of all trucks that made it to the streets with the G56. He didnt know any specifics other than what he told me. He did say that it looks like at least another 6-8 week hold until they figure out how to fix the problem, then however long it takes to do the actual fix.

When he finds out something new, he will let me know and I will post an update.

Just bought my New 05 NV5600 truck last friday. There was a G56 truck sitting on the lot they were trying to sell me. After my insistence that I did not want the G56 and signing the papers for the NV5600 truck I asked what the problems were with the G56. The dealer told me something about the transmission being built out of a solid chunk of aluminum and when the transmission would heat up the aluminum would swell up and cause bearing failure on the tail shaft area. They have a fix for it, it is just going to take time to correct all the ones already produced.

Huh? We're talking about a manual transmission.

The auto behind the Hemi's are 545FRE or something like that, and they're 5 speed autos. G56=new 6 speed which is starting to make the Dodge auto's look pretty good. Before anyone posts this, yes I know the 48RE has received good reviews from many owners here.

Been reading up on the other forums with the G56 issue. DC isn't saying what the problem is but some believe it's the dual mass flywheel setup. Whatever it is it won't be a quick fix. One person mentioned that on April 8th all orders with the G56 will be cancelled. Another rumor is that the trucks held captive right now by DC will be retrofitted with the NV5600.
Hopefully in the near future more info will be available.

Ooooh! Me like this (NV5600) rumor. First, the rumor was the G56 was a Getrag and the boo birds came out. Second, we found out about the dual mass flywheel and that got some cat calls from a few of the tranny gurus. Now, the hold issue.

I want the 6 speed, but didn't want to order one until I drove one first. Even so, buying one of the first years G56 made me nervous. I test drove a NV5600 last week. They had two, but neither one was equipt close to what I want. (Suddenly, they're looking good, too)

Unless I order (which I planned to do but time is running out) I can only buy off the lot from the 6 New England states, NY & NJ due to the emission issue. Wait until 06....then I'm stuck with a first year sheet metal change that looks like a Dakota. I'm glad I still like my 95 gasser. Now, to drop in a Cummins (12 valve?) and stretch it into a quadcab.

As nice as that would be I don't see it happening. Hopefully the wait isn't too long. Also as of a week ago my Truck was not on hold, Maybe all of the G-56s that are going on the boat we inpected/repaired during the month they waited at the dock. My guess is that it will go on hold after the boat drops it off

Don't they test this stuff before they put it into production?

Very easy to test for that kind of problem.

Just relaying what the dealer told me. He also said they already had a G56 back, the guy drove it two days and brought it back for repair.

Yes but.......They have to get a special sticker that says so to be legal in those emission specific states such as California.

I guess i am lucky. i picked up my truck on the 25th of march. had i waited any longer i may have been without a truck. i must say i love the G56. The clutch and shift feel is every bit as smooth as my 98 Tacoma. i really don't want them to convert them to the NV5600. i test drove a couple of those and missed every other shift and could never find the right gear.
