G56 Trans clutch issues, or so I think.

Sooooooo, I have an '06 Megacab 4x4, G56 6 speed truck. The problem is not with any kind of slippage, it's the fact that I cant shift into reverse or Low, and sometimes second at a stop. It pulls hard with absolutely NO slippage. The pedal has good feeling, but starts engaging as soon as it comes off the floor, which in my experience means a bad clutch.

I have already replaced the slave and master cylinder with a new unit from Dodge, thought maybe that was my problem but it wasn't.

So, all you G56 gurus, clutch disk wore out? DMF messed up?

Truck is mostly stock with the exception of exhaust and CAI, no lift, stock tires etc. It does 132,000 miles on it so I am sure its ready for a new clutch.

Assuming you have no air in the clutch line I have to say the clutch is done. If a diaphram finger or two are weak or worn the thing won't disengage cleanly. Also if the input shaft pilot bearing into the flywheel is worn or sticky it will drag. The lower gears are harder to get into because the drag in the clutch has more addvantage on the synchro that is trying to stop motion during the shift. Bad for your synchro. Probably need to get it out for a look. I do not think DM failure will cause what you are seeing but would not rule it out either. With the miles on it it is no surprise that it needs some attention.

Thats what I was thinking, we're going to pull it down this weekend and put in a clutch, pressure, and throwout bearing. I'm really dreading it truthfully.

Any comments on a Sachs clutch kit???? Good or bad??? Should I have my flywheel resurfaced?

Never replaced a clutch in a bigger truck, always been Jeeps and Toyotas.

I'd be yarding that DMF flywheel while it is out. You might as well upgrade to something else like maybe a South Bend.

Other than the size and weight of the trans, it is easier than the Yota clutch by far..

I would like to do the SMF and south bend deal, but I dont have the money for all that right now. I can get the sachs kit for around $375, alot cheaper than 1000-1400.
