Are the Mag-Hytech front diff covers still having clearance issures with lifted trucks?

Also - are you going to install the steering gearbox temp sender?

I was not aware that they WERE having clearance problems with the covers now. My understanding is that they made a design change some time ago and the problems were over past a certain serial number. Guess I'll find out soon enough as I am going to be doing the axle fliud changes soon. With the old covers they just trimmed off a little on a fin or two where they hit, then the covers were fine.

I was just going to put a sensor in to see what the temps actually are, difference between towing and empty, my curiosity stuff. Actually the steering gear box would be a good place to monitor temps. I have not heard of anyone doing this, but lots of people have talked about steering problems, who knows maybe their failures are heat related and fluid breakdown.

I used to have a Ford that the steering column would actually get pretty hot now and then. I always changed the fluid in the power steering system when I changed the tranny fluid. My friends were always going through PS pumps, not me. Fords were notorious for PS pump problems.

Good - just wanted to make sure you were aware of the clearance problem.

Some might think we're weird, but it's not that crazy to treat the fluid in the G56 and the power steering/power brake system the same - since they're all filled with ATF+4

I thought I would bring this back up to the top. I received my Fast Coolers today along with the kit for the G56 from the manufacturer. Very nice units, well made, the kit and installation parts are top quality. I will be putting them on in a couple of weeks when I change my fluids. So G56 guys, we DO have the tranny coolers available, right from the manufacturers website.

I just got mine in the day before yesterday; they are well-made, though I had to repair one of the mating surfaces due to shipping damage.

p.s. I also have the G56

Please report back on this thread with some temp readings. I'm curious if you can get it to fluctuate much.

OK - I'll post as soon as I know... I'm in the midst of a big bombing run, been working on the truck for the last week at the shop, got a good two weeks left before everything is finished.

My temp sensor is threaded into the drivers side PTO cover. The warmest temps I've seen so far is 135 F while driving approx 70 mph

I've only had the gauges since the weather has been getting colder. When its been -30C or colder (~ -20F to -30F) I usually cruise around 105 degrees. When its been warmer up to 10 C (~ 40 - 55 F) I've seen 138 F. I haven't towed with the truck yet.

Shaker, can you get a pic of where your sensor is mounted? I may just try that route when I get my commander.
