Was not there a TSB for popping out of reverse or such? I'd check for TSBs and warranty history on the truck.

The 4X4 mainshaft has a snap ring that holds the reverse gear synchro assembly in place.

There is only 1 main shaft listed for all apps and all snap rings are listed as all apps in the 06 parts manual am I missing something?

Yes, the mainshaft is the same, but the FSM specifies the snap ring as 4X4 only in the R&R procedure.

Per TSB 21-006-06, which applies to '05 & '06 G56s, the mainshaft bearing is held on by the snap ring for 4X4 apps, while the bearing is retained on the mainshaft by the yoke for 2X4 trucks.

Since the mainshafts should all have the snap ring groove, I don't know why the engineers felt the need to eliminate it for 2X4... it's cheap enough to use for all apps, and clearance shouldn't be an issue.

Who knows? I don't make 'em - we just make it better!
